Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year, ares was nice and chilled for a change worst bit was going back to work yesterday. Can't wait to get out of this country.
Please can anyone help, we desperately need to know what the maximum size is of an RV or similar in Europe, - acceptable size by them that is. Any tips you can give.
We have been directed to your site and have found the info on it useful, could do with some help with the question raised above.
Thanks
Caroline and Pete

This is the site for all the info you want, many good people to give advice. did it ourselves for 10mths great. large Hymer . but it does have its draw backs. because you cant just pop in the next town with it . go for mid size van thats comfy. the bed has got to be tops .and 2 good seats or bench type so you can relax winter time. because summer if its good will be spent outside .and cook outside buy a good camping gaz cooker.
but just remember this everybody wants to escape from the drudgery of work whether your German (and thank god your not because they cant till 67) french or anybody else . you will come to think well ole GBs not that bad , So go for it but please dont pull the uk down . enjoy

Thanks for your input, much appreciated, I know we all look at the grass over the otherside. We really do want to go now though, the warmth and adventure are drawing us ever closer.
Looking forward to talking to more, will be at Shepton Mallet for the weekend dipped out on the special tickets didn't see the post. Never mind it will be great getting there and trawling out way through all the motorhomes finding the one or getting more ideas

Are you really asking what is the maximum size legally permitted on the roads in Europe, or asking what size would suit you best?
Legal sizes are pretty much on par with the UK. Maximum width is, I think 255 cm. There is a lot of info on this (in respect of the UK regulations on this site.)

Ok think I may have confused you all a little sorry, am female after all.
What we're trying to find out is what is the acceptable size that is allowed on sites or on the free camps as it were.
We're planning on going abroad 2009 but could be sooner. We not so worried about going into the town so much as we will be taking our bike with us.
Are RV's for example accepted. The plan is to move around for a while until we possibly find a suitable home. We want something that can be lived in with some space - you know that we can escape a little from each at times we all need that
We're sorry and did not mean to put UK down, my partner suffers with white finger - which is basically pins and needles and struggles terribly with the damp and cold of this climate.
cheers Caroline

If it's legal in the UK it is legal across the EU ..
Max Length is 12 mt max width is 2.55mt.
If you tell us more about your needs, expectations, places and type of travel you are thinking on then you will get better more focussed advice.
We fulltime in a 36ft RV and have travelled extensively across Europe and Morocco, it has it's limitations, namely site access and pitch size but for fulltiming it's hard to beat.
Living and holidaying are entirely different, for fulltiming 365 you will need plenty of payload, fixed bed, lounge, diner, decent shower and toilet and preferably a winterised van.
see our picture albums below.
Good luck and keep asking questions .. it's a steep learning curve..
Jim
Edit
I think our posts crossed.. I didn't see your last reply

Wow thanks Scotjim, no worries bout post crossing.
Love the picks are you totally full time now?
The plan is now we have just got engaged yippee cant stop smiling!!!!
To go abroad and wed on the start of our new life. We plan on living 365, depends if we can find anything suitable, not sure yet whether France, Spain, Italy or even Portugal. We were looking at possibly flying over and looking around but that then puts pressure on what to see etc. So we have decided once all sold here we will up sticks and cruise around for a while taking in all the different cultures etc. Taking our time and then deciding where we may live, and then that's another ball game again. Should we find anything it would need to be modernised at the least so the motorhome / RV etc would still be our home. We must also add that we have 3 small dogs that will be coming to!
Even now when we pack for the weekend away trips they go nuts they love it and cant wait to join us in the home. Its great fun.
