Hi All
We have our Hymer B584 up for sale the insurance of which runs out next Wednesday. The renewal company Saga say that they only renew policy's annually and if the policy is cancelled within a few months, in say when we sell the Hymer, we will conly get back 42% of what we have paid.
So.... if I get this right and Caravan Guard have just said the same thing basically, I renew the policy for say £350, sell the van 3 weeks later and only get back £203
Does anyone know of a company who will insure the van for say 2 months? or will the premium be that high that it could cost me £150 for just 2 months?
I need to insure this van but not for a 12 month period.
Any help would be much appreciated. |

I can understand that being their standard way of dealing with cancelled policies, as they will show little goodwill to a departing customer.
However, as you will still need insurance on your new van, you are remaining someone's customer (for one van).
I'd have thought your best bet would be negotiating for 2 vans with the same company, and pointing out that you will be staying with them, for the new van. They might then show a bit of goodwill.
Of course, your situation is not unque, so someone may come on who can advise from experience. |

HI
We have actually got the new van, just haven't sold the old one yet.
The new van, an Autotrail Cheyenne 696G, is with Caravan Guard and I rang them this morning to be told that they would insure it but they only do these 12 month policies.
I agree, there must be someone who has been in this boat before. |

| Hi, I've been in this situation a few times, with cars rather than motor homes though. The last occasion, I was with Tesco, and they insured my old car by the week while it was for sale, but if memory serves, I could have gone for a month at a lower rate than 4 separate weeks would cost. I think it was under a tenner a week, and the car was a Honda Type R, so group 17 and probably dearer than most motorhomes to insure. |

Surely when changing MHs £150 is a small price to pay for a good insurance policy and peace of mind?
Balance it against the write off cost to the insurance company. |

Hi Ted,
Yes of course it would be if it took two or 3 months to sell the van. But if the van sold 2 days after taking out the policy it would be a simple waste of a lot of money. We don't earn it that quick |

I agree with Ted, if you have not sold it yet, change the price to include an extra £150. If you have already stated a price then add the insurance on top of the price you will settle for.assuming that you have put the price high to allow for a haggle.

Try Budget, they do a monthly plan for cars etc. They may do the same for a motorhome.
