Hi all. just a quick question re the above.
Well until recently I always just got the cheapest quote I could get - just for medical costs really as imo the rest is just a waste of money as they always seem to weasel their way out of paying out.
Last year in Rome I specifically included personal money etc because of the probs I envisaged re pickpockets etc.
Well my husband was 'dipped' and when we tried to claim via the travel insurance, they did not really do the business so in the end we got a better outcome claiming from the house insurance.
but all that is different now as I now have a medical condition and am finding it unbelievably confusing .
I am aware that I would not be able to claim for any treatment re this condition (unlikely as it is controlled) but I have been given some ridiculous quotes - £233 from Saga
Any ideas for a reasonable company who won't rip me off TOO much?
going to Rome in Feb for a week then 10 weeks in the MH from late March till late May

If arranging cover where there is an exisiting medical condition or similar, I would guess that cover is available but at a premium. I also think that cover is better value for money on an annual basis rather than per trip.
Try the Halifax as a starter for ten.

Hi Terri! I've just spent several days seeking out travel insurance for a six week visit to America for Auntie Sandra and me. Clearly, no need for motorhome cover, just medical.
Let me state now that, between us, we have five conditions to declare. Nothing really major, but it's better to fill in the holes before falling in them!
In view of the fact that we have a car and building/contents with Saga, we tried them first. The 'single trip' quote was £394. The 'multi-trip' quote was £189. Being a quick learner I worked out that multi-trip would be the better option!
On to the Caravan Club, through Millstream Underwriting. Multi-trip £234! Wow! That's worse!
Then I tried 'TheAA' website. Multi-trip, no questions option available. £82!! Next morning, I phoned TheAA for a quote and explained how I wished to make some medical declarations. Within minutes, I was told that a year's 'World Wide including USA' multi-trip insurance cover would cost £88!! I hear you saying "WHAT?" £88!! The medical declarations added just over £6 to the website quote.
One thing that did show was that each agent used what appeared to be the same set of questions. But how can the quotes vary so much? (Don't answer that!)
I paid for TheAA insurance instantly and then nearly wet myself when I told my son how well I'd done. "Yes, but have you included repatriation?" he asked.
A very close examination of the soon received policy booklet has confirmed that repatriation, if medically advised, is covered, as is the provision of a nurse, if medically advised.
All I can conclude is that it pays to play the shopping-around game.

thanks to all for the helpful replies - and esp to Norm - will certainly ring the AA tomorrow - that quote was amazing.
Yes I also agree that the quotes differ amazingly between different companies even though, as said before, they all ask the same questions!
Need to get this sorted before we go to Rome again in Feb (going to see the rugby ), then for our longer trip(s) later.
Thanks again guys
Terri
