Question
Dear All,
My wife and I would appreciate any and all advice, we have our own boat on the Norfolk Broads and are used to "camping"
This year we would like to hire a motorhome and travel round Britain and Donegal in Ireland.
We are thinking about travelling outside the school holidays and wondered if it was cheaper? is this sort of holiday affected by school timetables ?
What sort of advice or tips do you need to drive such a large vehicle?
There would only be 2 of us and 2 v. small dogs, but we have been considering something larger than a 2 berth to gain some extra comfort, is there a catch with this ?
We've looked at the useful sticky above, and keep coming back to Motorholmes, does anyone have any experience of using this company ? are they a middleman hiring private vehicles? is that what most of these companies do ? What sort of questions should we be asking them ?

Any advice would be very welcome, as members of the boating world we know only too well the potential pitfalls of doing something new for the first time.

Thanks
John

hi ned,

1st yes it is cheaper to hire outside of school holidays-isn't everything Wink
2nd drive it like a car, find the position on the lower edge of the screen which lines up with kerb or verge when a couple of feet clear, if driving lhd then you can always be closer than you think.
3rd no - unless going past 8m.
4th yes and no, they now have their own 'vans as well as hiring out the public's, depends where you live/want to start. yes. how much is the excess - may be £1000 paid on credit card - be careful!

Depends on how long the actual hire period will be, two months would be quite expensive.

If you want to know more give Gill a call.

Regards

We hired from Motorholme earlier this year. Boss is Andrew. I think all of their motorhomes are owned by 3rd parties.

Our experience was mixed, 1st hired one in May broke down after 2 days - bloke who owned it had bought it to hire out as extra income, it was tatty although well equipped. Had argument with him regarding refund, he tried to persuade us to sit tight for a few days while the M/H was fixed. Came back on AA transporter. Bypassed him & went back to Motorholme and got a refund after some arguing.

We wanted to try an A class & these were virtually the only Company with them available.

Arranged another hire in June, again with Motorholme (they gave us some discount for the retry). This one owned by different person entirely and was brilliant.

They did 3 different prices-low, medium & high seasons. They do have £1000 excess on their insurance cover which made me nervous.

They have a very good website where you can see the models & rates.

We paid both times by credit card & put 1st hire cost in dispute with C/card co until we got refund.

Happy new year to all.

Hi, I/we are registered with Motorholme but can also hire-out privately (using their admin and insurance) providing our own quotes. Should you have any questions about us or them, don't hesitate to get in touch.
By the way, our MH is a brand new Roller Team Autoroller 700 7 berth, and unlike most hirers, we will discuss pets.

Cheers.
