Good points well made Ian. I toyed with the idea of joining Fon following previous posts (in fact I think I am a member as they sent me the router!) but haven't pursued it as I have a "dodgy" telephone line & was advised to get an upgraded (more expensive Rolling Eyes ) Router.

However I am quite willing to use the Community to "buy" access when I'm roaming, though I'm not sure the concept has fully taken off in the UK

Agree - but make it in the area where paid-up members ONLY have access

Theft, as I suggested it would be on what ended up as one of the Shoot-em-down threads of a couple of months ago. Very Happy

I frequently park outside a hotel in Marbella and use there WiFi signal. Am i breaking the law because i have not checked in to the hotel ?. There are several towns in Spain which are now putting systems in to allow everyone free use. Aren't BT encouraging everyone to share there connections ?. Isn't this a situation where technology is going to make the law obsolete.

What possible advantage to the user is there of sharing their Wi-Fi connection?

Surely by doing so, they are hoping that others will also do likewise, and therefore make their access to WiFi easier when travelling.

It is very easy to secure your connection if you wish to do so, so it is reasonable to assume that a lot of connections are left unsecured because it is the users wish.

If you are sending a quick email, or accessing a web page most users would not be aware that their connection was being shared

just wanted to say I've enjoyed reading all the considered points on this thread (and some of the unconsidered ones) - I must admit I found my point of view changing back and forth as I read on...

Just returned to MHF from holidays abroad and intrigued to see the Thread runs and runs. Continued debates about whether it#s an offence-and if so what offence
