Whilst travelling up through France last week we decided to stop at Merry-sur-cher, as some of you would know this is a lovely little aire that has been until recently free of charge. Last year they decided to charge 3 euros, collected by a warden, but still excellent value with electricity, now sadly they have decided to put a barrier at the entrance and you have to use your credit card to get in !!!!!!!! unfortunately it doesnt accept English cards.
Luckily it was about 5pm when we arrived and failing to get in the wife went over to the Marie, a young girl in the office took our 3 eauros and let us in then a French van arrived he also failed to get in after using his card so they just lifted the barrier and left it.
Obviosly they are having probels with the barrier as a guy was working on it when we arrived. It is a pity as it is a very conveniant stop and if you arrive at weekends or late then you might not get in.

We stop there about 6 times a year so I'm grateful for your information.

Is the barrier across the entrance to the aire or across the entrance to the car park?
I ask because it is common practice to overnight on the car park when the aire is full. A barrier across the aire entrance will of course prevent the dumping of grey water although the cassette dump point will still be usable.

That is a real shame Sad

I do hope this use of cards will not be taken up by every aire if they do not accept our UK cards.

Unfortunately it is right in the very entrance to the aire and car park so cutting off both.

You can always go up the road a bit. They'd have great difficulty in putting barriers there Smile
