Well i was prompted into this post by FatBuddahs post!

So it's the Edinburgh marathon on the 25th May, & was wondering where to stop, then thought "hang on a minute - we now have our own place Laughing ", so onto the CC website & lo & behold they have a site in Edinburgh, well actually just outside on Marine Drive, so I've provisionally booked it because there were only a few pitches left. Couple of questions please:

1. has anyone stayed there & are the standard grass pitches ok & level enough? Remember we'll still be new to this!

2. is there a decent link into Edinburgh centre - the race starts from Hollyrood & I'd pefer not to have to drive in & out.

3. The route goes east past Musselburgh - is there a better more suitable alternative site? TBH I don't want to wild it up there, I'd prefer to lounge before & after the race & have long shower in a shower block!!!

Thanks In advance

The site is lovely (quite apart from being 3 miles from where I wuz born & brung up Smile ). It's level, with tarmac roads, secure barriered entrance, big gravel pitches with grassed areas in between (the gravel is 2" stuff, not pea gravel, so doesn't get inside the van), and the toilets are to die for (usually Scottish Country Music playing in the background whilst you oblute...).

Holyrood has only one "L". Wink The bus stop is at the site gate. £2.50 or so for a day's runabout ticket, after 09:30 am. Transportation in Edinburgh is second to none.

There are a couple of sites not far from Musselburgh down the East Coast which I know (although not camped on), but we still always go to Silverknowes (Marine Drive) as it's second to none.

Dougie.

The Scottish habit of pronouncing my name "Doogie" has always irritated me, for some reason (maybe because of my inbred pedantry - "Douglas" isn't pronounced "Dooglas" except in France....).

Anyway, make it 50 lines. I'm feeling magnaminiminiminimous today.

Dougie.
