Hello

I am looking for a digi cam. Nothing too elaborate, just a point and shoot thing, but ideally with a screen so I can see the pic I am taking, rather than just a viewing window.

I will need to connect it to the laptop to download the pics (do they all do this), and also might want to take the camera to Boots or somewhere and print off the pics.

Any thoughts please, but nothing too hi tec.

There are several ways to meet your needs. Most digital cameras will connect via USB and become a drive so that you can read and write to it.
When I am in my MH I use an HP portable printer, which is mains and battery, which produces 6x4 (some of the later versions have all sorts of gimmicks). It produces some excellent prints, you can get a carrying bag which houses the printer, paper, charger and even enough room for the small camera - I use a Fuji1 Z1 - the printer also has card readers. The total package measures 25cmx25cmx19cm high just right for the motorhome. Should you want larger prints then Tesco or boots will do the job, or an A4 photo print(I use an Epson Stylus Photo R300)
The little printer I have will do passport size prints which have be accepted by the authorities

As I read your post I'm assuming your looking for a still camera (as opposed to a camcorder)

If thats the case, and the fact you mentioned "point and shoot" my advice would be to look for.......

1) optical zoom (3x will be fine) avoid relying on digital zoom (you can do that on your PC)
2) Pixels - As a general rule the more pixels the better (7mill and above give excellent results)
3) Screen - look for a bright screen possibly adjustable brightness (dark screens are a pain in sunlight)
4) Branding - many cameras are badged as other makes, but you can't go far wrong with Nikon, Canon, or Pentax
5) Make sure you get a camera with card memory, not camera memory (you can upgrade this whenever you want, and take the cards into boots as you mentioned for processing)

I have a Nikon D70 SLR and several lenses, but my pocket sized Nikon coolpixs200 camera goes everywhere with me and has performed brilliantly.
