Right, finally got all photos from previous competitions sorted into folders appropriate for this year's themes, and was ready to upload them, but a little bird told me they wouldn't get a vote from his direction anyway, so I guess there's little point.
Trust me to follow the rules.

| As a newcomer I used as suggested the picture resize programme and sent the photograph, page 7 Portree Isle of Skye. However despite my best efforts I am unable to make the picture bigger to show it at its best!!. Any suggestions, I am unable to work out target size etc. I have tried entering the various sizes suggested but to no avail! |

Hi Harburner
Lets get it sorted out for you. I am out a lot today so if you post and anyone else sees it please join in trying to get it sorted.
Just confirm which resizer software you are using please?
What sizes are you trying?
After you have resized what is the actual size of the image, i.e in kbs rather than its dimensions
What sort of file is it eg jpg

The software package was Photo resize.
I have tried all the sizes suggested.
I started with a jpeg size 750kb and it is reduced to a jpeg size 7.81kb. The original size was 3888x2592 and is now 400x266.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated |

Hi
The problem Harburner was having was that when he clicked on his photograph it was not enlarging very much. When you looked in the gallery there was only one pic size whereas others have two, the thumbnail and a bigger one that opens on clicking.
I took the photograph into photoshop and made it bigger and then uploaded it There were not two images and on clicking up came the bigger one.
I have not thought about this before and I think I am right in how I describe it.
It could be the resizer program just makes a smaller image. I have found a link for free photo editing software if anyone has not got any

I am on mobile internet and so do not want to download it. Maybe someone would have a look and report back.

Hi Stew
regret I can't help there isn't a mac version
To add to your information when I upload a .jpg that is bigger than 640 x 480 pixels there is a two stage process controlled by MHF the first is the up load phase the next is a resizing one. (I imagine its a Java script running and its browser independant) As a result of that three picture files seem to be generated the thumbnail the 640 x 480 and the full size one.
Attached are the screen shots of the processes as seen at our end.
Does this help? |
