hi,

we are off to France next week, just wondering if we need any kind of adaptor for the EHU, or do they use the same fittings?

Hi Sally,

Some sites use the standard 3 pin plug while others still use the French 2 pin plug, so it pays to have an adaptor. If you have time to buy one before you go they are readily available at virtually all camping and caravan supplies outlets. Otherwise you can buy one when you get to France-most large supermarkets sell them.

Hi you need a continental adapter, these are available at most good asessory shops, the sites vary so much, some have both types.
Some EHU points are reverse polarity and some peple make up a short adapter to overcome this, many say it dosnt matter,
Cheers, have a lovely holliday.

Hi Sally;

In addition to your normal CEE17 plug on the end of your cable you'll need one of these adaptors in France...

Available from most good accesory shops.

Your standard hook up cable will have an IP44 plug and socket fitted, the plug goes into the post.
Some French sites still use the conventional domestic French Plug.
So its best to carry a short lead with a IP44 Lewden Socket to French Plug 2 male pin female earth. Most of us also carry a short lead for reversing polarity because a lot of French sites are reverse polarity to us. This has Lewden plug one end a socket the other but wired in reverse at one end only. We also carry a polarity tester plug, about £8 from camping shops.

The adaptor lead for france is readily available in hypermarkets throughout France and considerably cheaper. In the UK you will pay a hefty premium as it is a leisure product.
Avoid the rip-offs don't buy from a Caravan/Motorhome dealer.
