Hi - I wonder if anyone can offer some advice...

I'm looking to hire a motorhome to travel around for a fortnight in France and into Northern Spain in July.

Can anyone help with what I should look for based upon my preferences and constraints and questions below?

There is just myself and my girlfriend travelling
We will travel with two mountain bikes that I'd like to be able to keep inside, so think we need a model with a "garage"
Don't have any preferences on size or cost really - there does not seem like there is much variety between the cheapest and most expensive
W plan to take a car over to France and pick up the vehicle there

1. If I rent from one of the big worldwide motorhome hire companies, will I have a relatively easy time of booking in English, driving to a pick-up-point in France - hopefully conversing in pidgin-English with the depot?
2. If I choose a certain style of vehicle - i.e. specifically one with a garage, am I sure to get one with that facility, even if it is a different make/model?
3. Are there any particular disadvantages/advantages of choosing a coachbuilt vs A-class vehicle (assuming I am picking up the lingo OK)

I am sure there will be more questions, but if anyone can help with those, it would be really appreciated.

Tim

Hi Tim and welcome to MHF. Your post seems to have come at a busy time and so sank before being answered. This will bump it up and I'm sure someone will come along who can answer your questions.

Have you googled for a company ? I assume, having only 2 weeks, you'll want to hire somewhere away from Calais or are you going over on the Portsmouth crossing ?

Hi Tim

This may be a bit further north than you would like to start from, however, my other half and I hired a Hymer from this company three years ago. It is a husband and wife team [wife English, husband Dutch] offering very well maintained [oldish] Hymers.

They are based in Reuver in the very south east of Holland [5kms from the German border] The main autobahns are very close, so getting south isn't a problem. We flew to Amsterdam and took the train down to Venlo [very close to Reuver]. You will see from their website, that they do pickups from two or three nearby airports. Maybe worth a look.

Regards

Dave

Thanks Dougle and Grizzly.

I have indeed done some googling, but there are lots of companies out there, and I was keen to see if there were any recommendations really to avoid me starting from scratch. I was not sure if I could mention companies specifically on here, but I was homing in on

as they seemed to meet my needs.

Thanks for the suggestion of the company in Holland, Dougle, but as you might have suspected, I'm actually keen on travelling further south from the calais area before I pick up the vehicle rather than north.

Hope someone can help with some more answers to the original questions as I am hoping to book soon.

Thanks

Tim
