Hi,can somebody help me with information on changing the card in my digibox, the reason is this:I am presently using a freeview card but if we do no use the equipment for a few days we lose channels, yes I am aware that I can phone to have these reset, but that is a P.I.T.A! So can I use my sky card from the digibox in doors, and if so how do I reset the digibox in the MH.Would the channels automatically transfer to the digibox in the MH?
thanks for any advice.Curlyboy

Hi Laughing
Apparently sky does a 72hour cycle to check if you are using the box and deactivates the system. If you leave your sky dish in position and the sky box switched on it will reset 4 and 5 within the 72hour window so no real need to telephone!! This I was told by SKY! - it worked the last time. Now I put my Dish up and leave the box on once a week - no problems since! I did try my home card in the MH box and it worked but I don't know if they can track the serial number!!
regards
Richard

Richard is sort of right. If the decoder isn't powered up and locked on for a few weeks it will revert to defaults and you lose the encrypted channels. As you're using the freeview card you'll lose channel 4 and 5.
Leave the system powered up (and locked onto the satellite) and it'll sort itself out within 72 hours. Still annoying if you're only away for the weekend!
I don't have a Sky subscription any more so I can't confirm the use of a subscription card but it's my understanding that you won't get any of the premium channels. I could be wrong though!

Regards
Doug

Hi,thank you both for that info,I wasn't aware of the 72 hours thingy,so will give it a try as soon as the wind here on Bodmin Moor dies down a bit, lovely place to live but it has that disadvantage,if you can call it so?
cheers Curlyboy

Hi

As far as I am aware, you could give me your card, and I could use it in my SKY box. It would work ok. However, if you have premium packages, I would not be able to view those. You may well recall giving your SKY box serial number when you registered your SKY card. I think the Premium channels are "locked" (for the want of a better word) to a particular receiver.

Hope that makes sense.

R

So does that mean I could technically take the upstairs box+card in the van? - Would downstairs card and box which is skyplus still work at home?

I take my Sky Digibox and card (with SkySports channels - not Sky plus) when we visit sites in Scotland - worked fine so far. Going to France soon, can I expect similar performance? Also, what is the legal situation regarding using Sky Digibox/card outside the home address?

Hi

I believe it is illegal to receive the signals when you are overseas. Not sure about "away from home" but in the UK.

It was discussed on the Jeremy Vine show on the radio a while back. Conversely, there was a lady on the show who had a pub and paid a Greek satellite fee as it was cheaper to get the footy. Turned out she got a fine or something. Can't remember all the details.

Glen - think that is why they insist you keep connected to phone line. My old box wasn't once 18 mths contract gone by. Probably could have gone to moon with that one, but not sure what's legal now either. - Someone will know I'm sure!

I think my box was only connected to a phone line for a couple of days, and that was a few years ago.
