Just about to take delivery of our new MH and wondering about a tracker. Given that the vehicle has an imobiliser and a thatcham class 1 alarm I wonder if the tracker is worth the cost and subscription. Any potential thief would have to get past the vehicle alarm and if he could, get past the imobiliser and steering lock too. Seems to me the only way to nick the vehicle would be to arrive with a means of lifting the front wheels and towing it away, thats after the thatcham noise goes off because the handbrake would have to be released. I know it's an individual choice thing and it might seem that the cost when compared to 50K for the camper is little but I would appreciate the views of other members.

We are upgrading our van to an Autotrail Cheyenne in May and I have been checking out insurance. Several companies wouldn't insure us without one. We have chosen the upgraded Phantom that notifies you if someone enters your van and the tracker is on. No one looks at alarms anymore anyway so at least we will know what's happening to the van when we leave it, hopefully!

Hi

We have a Phantom (and Strikeback alarm) fitted, it has 2 main advantages

1. Peace of mind that you will know if your van is broken into or stolen and the police will track it to get it back

2. It gave us a huge discount on our insurance and will therefore pay for its self

It was expensive to buy (have a 5 year plan) but it is little compared to what you might loose. If we accidently set it off by opening a door whilst its armed we now have a race to try and beat Phantom on the phone, there fast though.

If you go for the Phantom 'Pro-active' system it can be linked to many alarm systems - this means that if the alarm is activated the tracker is also triggered and you will get a call to check whether the activation is 'authorised' as in a false alarm, or not.

If you are already committed to the alarm I would seriously consider the Pro-active Phantom option.

A very expensive addition indeed, however, in order to have insurance at all, I have to have one fitted......regardless of the OE deadlocks and full internal/external alarm already fitted. Apparently, this alarm/immobiliser system, as its a Yank, doesnt count.

Had one fitted to this MH. Is it worth it? Don't know, no-one's tried to steal it yet.

Hi just another take on the idea, it will not stop the determind theif, but may well get your m/h back.Would you want it back with all the damage done ?You would probably loose your ncb just the same as if you had not got it back but got a new m/h to replace the lost one ! Question

As an alternative to these expensive trackers has anyone considered fitting one of these GSM/GPS smart boxes that can be linked into an existing car alarm?
