Hi Peter

With that sort of spend the answer to your query is NO. Wait 24 hours. Why risk it?

We had a 80 watt solar panel Sikaflexed on at the Shepton show last September. The panel was fixed by Sikaflex only ( no screws ) on Saturday, The installer came back and checked it on Sunday. We drove home to Hampshire on the Monday with no problems.

PS...Solar Solutions supplied and installed.

Just a thought, but I have always wondered about this. How do people feel about having their vans worked on, in the middle of a muddy field, potentially in the wind and rain from a bloke with a ladder?

This is not a pop at anyone at all as I know lots of fitters who install at the shows and like all works in life some are good some are bad, but I wouldn't dream of letting somone loose on my van unless in a clean controlled enviroment

Regarding sticking down the unit, it will depend on the temperature for curing times so I guess that you will have to hope for a sunny day (not too sunny though as it it get too hot, it skins and wont cure properly)

48 hrs IMO is the minimum. Sikaflex is cured through its reaction with atmospheric moisture. (No you cant speed up the reaction by spraying water on it) Sad

I did some control patches using the Sika I used to bond my panels on. The outside skins over after a few hours. The remainder took two days to cure fully.

Full information from Sika

Its always comforting to be able to see the actual installation done in front of you. I can see no reason not to have such work done by a reputable, and well known company.
Obviously its up to the customer to choose what type of installation is carried out under 'show' circumstances, but I'm sure that a good company would not attempt any installation in inappropriate weather.
In my case of having a solar panel fixed to the roof, they used a padded ladder to gain access to the roof. The fitter masked the Sikaflex to stop it curing to rapidly. He said he would return in 36 hours to check the job. He did, he was happy with it and i was happy with it. What more can anyone ask for?

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL !!!!!!. What are you bonding to??. Are there other M/H's like Rapido which have a 'floating' outer skin of GRP on the roof. When I was fitting my crank-up I drilled the required hole with a hole cutter and low and behold discovered that the outer skin of GRP was not attached to the aluminium skin underneath (only held in place by other fittings like the heki and vents). I only used the Sikaflex to seal the base but used the screw option to fix it as I didn't want my new dish to take off with a sizeable piece of the outer layer of my roof.
