We were staying on a France Passion site last year. And got talking about milk. The fact we had not got any.She said that is not a problem as we are farmers what time do you want it. Anyway about 8.30 the next morning madam came with our milk STILL WARM. Now that is FRESH MILK.

How come when we go and buy FRESH MILK it has a sell by date 10 days or more from the day we buy it! We did buy our milk from the co op. But that has been taken over by Dairy Crest and we had 2 lots go off before the date on the bottle! I don't think it was always like this. And its not our fridge.

If this is modern times, I think I liked the good old days.

When it was fresh and put on the door step.

Enjoy. Bob and Jane.

My pal was a dairy farmer, over the years it became more expensive to keep the cattle for the cost of selling on the milk. He did tell me it was kept up to 2-3 weeks in cold store. He still keeps cattle but for beef only.
I agree with you about sell by dates, I buy milk and usually include a flagon of Cravendale to use towards the end of the week.
We used to buy milk in Wales fresh like you bought in cartons from TB tested cows. When I was a lad I sometimes filled the cartons myself and sealed them with a metal fold over strip, lovely on cornflakes and super in porridge.

If it was still warm, chances are it was straight from the cow - we used to buy it that way untill pasturisation became the norm and we decided it wasn't worth the risk and opted for the bottled stuff.

Re: bigfoot. How can they call it fresh! 2-3 weeks .Makes you wonder how old long life milk is!

Re:aultymer. Yes it was straight from the cow we had to put some ice cubs in it for the cornflakes. She makes some very nice Rhubarb wine as well. .

IN 08 France Passion book.

page 64 Girondelle 08260

Pierrete & Pacal Brosse. She is very nice and learning english.

You only buy if you want tooooooooo. And you do after a bottle!
Enjoy. Embarassed Twisted Evil
