Hi all,

I'm finding the rear fixed bed mattress on our new Kontiki 679 very uncomfortable. I can't decide whether to buy a completely new mattress (weird size though 1.99 x 1.30) or if a memory foam topper will do. The problem is that the mattress is quite firm and my hubby is about 3 stone heavier than me which results in me feeling like I am constantly climbing a hill during the night when I try to get to my side of the bed!! Evil or Very Mad

I thought a topper might help but there again the mattress will still rise at one side. I've priced a new mattress but not sure if I'm ready to spend £300+ on this when the mh is only 1 month old!

Has anyone found a good deal on a new mattress or do we think a topper will do - I haven't tried a memory foam mattress/topper before so don't know what they're like.

Well I would be inclined to go for memory foam mattress topper just a couple of inches thick - since we got ours for our home bed all my aches seem to be alot less and I have since bought one for the van and sleep like a log. If you buy a new mattress and yours is only one month old will you be in same position or were you meaning you would buy a softer version? Does hubby sleep ok and finds a firm mattress ok?

Mattress toppers are a lot less than the £300 as well.

I have bought all of us memory foam toppers now as well and our boys think they very strange to start with but soon got used to them. I would think they could be a bit warm in summer though but have not gone through summer with them yet.

Hope thats an idea for you.

Have you tried putting something (a folded blanket etc) under the mattress on his side? Not ideal I know but a lot less than £300.

I have a spare tempur mattress topper 6ft 6" x 5 ft that we used in our Hymer S820. It is little used as we only kept the van 12 months (for 6 weeks of holiday). It does not fit our new van which has a 2m x 1.9m bed. We had to buy a larger one to fit.

We had exactly the same problem as yourselves - new van, uncomfortable bed. My wife is 4 stone lighter than me. We looked at different toppers, cheap ones "bottom out". This one solved the problem but was very expensive. If you like please make me an offer for it via private message.

We bought a memory foam mattress topper for our bed, it lasted 3 days before we rolled it up and put it in the loft, I found it smelled very bad and was hard and uncomfortable, in the end we bought a new bed. Bambi 2 Brick wall

We needed a new mattress for our American fixed bed Motorhome and decided on a king size firm memory foam mattress off E bay that cost £160. We cut it to size with an electric bread knife as a friend of ours in the foam trade told us that was the best way to do it.
Its the best mattress we have ever had, I am 6foot and my wife is 5foot and 5stone lighter and we have no roll together
Make sure you do some research on the different types of mattresses and go into some big stores and try the different kinds out.

We tend to use the single bed set up in our van as the double is a bit of a fiddle.

We also normally use sleeping bags but find them very restrictive, almost claustrophobic.

We've seen the Raskelf Duvalay on their website. It has a memory foam topper on the bottom and a single duvet on the top and it's joined down one side and at the bottom. So much like a sleeping bag without the zips and with a built in topper which might make our leather seats a bit more comfortable.

Rather than purchase unseen off the 'net we're going to Peterboro' to have a prod, poke and a furkle.

Have a look in Ikea they have a wide range of bed pads. and their mattress'es are very good , bought one for our last big hymer great.

If you are going to get a matress topper buy a good one such as Raskelf and you will never want to be with out it,yes there are cheaper ones about but like every thing else you get what you pay for.
