Hi all.
the heater fan on the cab of my Ducato chassis has failed.
it works on speed 4.
no blow on speeds 1 2 and 3.
suspect resistor pack failure, anyone got any idea what is problem.
under warranty but would rather fix it myself if i can due to long drive and time problems to dealer for repair.
all help gratefluuly received.
regards
Geoff B

Yes you've got it. Resister pack failed, no doubt about it. Speed four does not use a resister hence it still works.

Thanks both.
anyone know a Fiat dealer that will do the warranty work near to Derby.
sounds like a common fault. not good design then.

Hey up - "Fannygate" here we come!!
I don't want to sound too picky Geoff ( ), but two reports of this failure hardly makes it a common fault, or necessarily a poor design.
Cheers

Actually to be piccy.
as a designer. 10 years + designing automotive HVAC systems for OEMs
1 fault of this type on a 17,000 mile vehicle is a poor design.
Having done many FMEA's on HVAC systems i can assure you that this is a poor design. IT SHOULD NOT FAIL.
It is common problem with resistor packs, they burn out if not designed correctly.
So if a good design it will not fail, very similar to a lightbulb in the SPC curve being the shape of a bathtub.
modern vehicles use an electronic speed controller as resistor packs are obsolete in well designed HVAC systems.

Finally managed to get through the rude girl on Brownhills service reception (put phone down on me because i wouldn't just go away) and speak to a service manager, who was very helpfull,
you see Brownhills it can be done ( customer care that is ).
anyway, they keep the resistors in stock as it is a common problem.
