Fiat 2,8 TD Ducato year 2000

Dumb question maybe, but how does one know if the turbo charger is actually turbo charging? On my Toyota, one can feel it kick in but no such kick here.

Also what is that switch next to the headlight switch that has an icon of a light and 3 posisitions, I can't see that it does anything.

hi jhelm you will hear a slight whistle from your engine when the turbo kicks in ,ive had the pipe come of on my intercooler before which meant the turbo didnt work. The switch is to adjust the headlamp angle depending on your weight your carrying . regards gary

Turbos, well if you cant hear it, then you have to tell by driving, 0-30 with turbo 10sec approx, without 10 mins. :oops:but you get the idea. It does have some wieght to pull so will not be as fast as the toyota. That switch could may well be the headlamp adjuster.when the back is loaded you adjust lamps to stop dazeling oncoming traffic.

Thanks for the quick responses, I do hear a bit of a whining sound. I imagined the switch might be for the headlight angle but I don't see it making a difference, might be broken.

On the 2000 Ducato, these are controlled by a rather odd pneumatic system, chances are that there is a leak in one of the pipes or one has come loose.

The turbo starts turning the moment the ex gases start blowing , I believe you feel the boost as the turbo blows harder than the natual induction air,
So faster you rev,the more boost , more engine power. there is normally a wastegate(valve) to prevent over boost and a burst engine.
I have had this happen on a petrol engined conversion, my 2500 L/Rover gave more BHP than my V8 range rover. this problem would be controlled by electronics on modern engines.
