I thinking about having additional power points fitted and whilst looking around for a supply I saw this.

The truma boiler as been used as a supply to power the aerial booster for the Status Aerial.

As an electrical ignoramus I wondered if it was OK

By the way, I am not thinking to use this for power points Shocked

The aerial booster wont use much ampage but it will take the water heater circuit close to max so any slight problem and the fuse will go sooner. It's a lazy mans answer to the supply problem. Always wire everything to a fuse box if at all possible. It's easier to trace problems as well.

That amplifier will take next to nothing but the connections on the Truma, loads of uninsulated terminals just waiting for the day something metal bounces around - try and get some tape on them.

Must go and check mine !!

I think that you will find that the status is 12v. The Truma is 240v so I don't think that the two are interconnected.

Well I think those power connections are 12V, but it bothers me they look different wires to the Status. Are you sure they are connected?

"I wondered if it was OK"
I'm unclear what "it" you want to do. What is a "power point" to you? What are you going to power?

Thanks for the reply

rowley,

the power supply to the status is definitely taken from the Truma. The cable with the blue terminals is the same cable you see attached to the status booster. At the moment the van is on mains hook up with the 12v off. The status powers up.

I'll get some tape on them - thanks hilldweller - until I find an alternative supply thats fused - thanks Jiggles

Hi Dave

I an looking to fit a couple of extra three pin 240v sockets to power the TV or laptop and was looking for the nearest 240v supply when I noticed the status powered from the truma. I was surprised to see this arrangement and to my mind I thought it a bit iffy. It was this arrangement that I was questioning.

Mine is different to yours, but now sports some duct tape, just in case.

The supply will be fused. Maybe a bit higher than you would choose for the status.

Geoff,

Well your main problem is that you have identified 12V terminals, but you want to install mains sockets Sad

The Status supply is rated at 12/24v in the tech spec. Maybe you have a mains adapter in the circuit although that seems pointless when 12v is available from the battery. Shocked
