I joined this site in July 2006 and I still do not own a motorhome - yeah, how sad is that? I have been away for a while but those of you who remember me will know I have a very motorhome unfriendly husband who will be dragged around shows and show rooms but who will not buy!!

However, I am now retired and I have the dosh - I am looking for an Adria Twin or a Devon Monte Carlo. In the meantime, hubby has agreed to give one of pre-mentioned motorhomes a whirl in September. I am planning two weeks in Provence and hope the al fresco dining and evenings glugging quantities of French wine will convince him, this is definately the dream.

So, do I hire a motorhome and pay the extra for ferrying it across the Channel or do I hire in France? Any recommended sites in Provence?

Also, any wives out there who want to swap a five star hotel loving husband for one who wants to drive around Europe in a motorhome?

swap mine for yours? no chance !
However ...... I am truly sympathetic to your plight so as I have a perfectly charming, motorhome touring in France loving husband ..... here's my cunning plan.....
I work offshore for 2 weeks at a time so while I am away I will LEND you said charming man for a tour in France in our motorhome, your hubby can stay safe at home in his comfort zone and when you get back he can look at the photos.
I reckon hubby will be buying a motorhome very quickly once this idea is presented to him !

Good Luck !
by the way I would opt for renting in France and flying over if you are time restricted but renting here and taking the tunnel if not as the holiday and adventure starts the minute you get on the Chunnel. If you have Tesco clubcard points every £1 voucher is worth £4 off cost of tunnel.
There is an agency that arranger hire of privately owned vans that seems to be a cheaper alternative, think it might be called "motorholme" or something, will look it up if you are interested.

Hi, here's one site I know of. I think It would be cheaper to rent on the continent. Good luck anyway.

Hey, Hettiehymer, is your chap as good looking as mine? By the way, mine is a superb cook, which is why I want to take him along. In the meantime, will show the chap your post in the hope he gets worried!

By the way, we actually visited Motorholme last week, as sometimes we are based near Cambridge, home of said company. They are a really pleasant, friendly bunch but the Adria Twin on their books has gone back to New Zealand.

Thanks for link Rustygun.

Sorry for the thread hijack but couldn't resist it.

You live in Essex - just wondering if the cat in your avatar is where the cat that owns us spends the night? Very Happy Scarily alike.

What is it about ginger and white cats? Everyone that we have had has had the "oi, did you just spill my pint" or "come and have a go if you think you're 'ard enough" attitude.

Worst thing was when he had amused himself with next doors hens. I was trying to deny that he would do such a thing to the owner when he strutted up and presented me with half a dead chicken Embarassed Embarassed

P.S. I am a brilliant cook but don't have anything else going for me......

well......
not bad for his age .......
much more importantly .... a dab hand at the stove ! while I am slaving on a rig he cooks and freezes a superb chilli and a rogan josh that puts his mentor to shame ( Floyd ), I come home ,we set off in the van, and for the first few days I don't have to even think about cooking or shopping ..... worth his weight in gold.
However ..... not so hot on polishing the van ... for that you can't beat "trevorf" I wonder if Julie would spare Trevor for a fortnight as well then you would have the best of both worlds !!!!
come on ladies .... I am sure there are more out there with hubbies of value who wouldn't mind donating them for a week or two ... for such a deserving cause !

Mmmmm i know a single gentleman that is looking for a lady to tour france, spain, portugal etc all expenses paid....he employs a driver, so all you have to do is sit back and let him bore you to death with his none stop drival....

he is rather wealthy and oversexed apart from that fairly normal and extremely clean, non smoker etc;

Better not show this to your hubby......

Hi Autumn - if you reject all the kind offers to accompany you to Provence and have to take your own husband, could I suggest you hire as close to Provence as possible. If you really want to win him over to the MHing life in two weeks, I think less long distance driving and more dawdling around the villages then sitting outside your hired home with a glass or two, a simple fresh French meal, only a step away from your own bed must win him round Laughing

Best of luck.

We'll be there in a couple of weeks - can't wait.

Sue
