Hi all,
Is it possible to get freestanding dashbaord car speakers ?

The speakers in my MH it aren't the best but the radio can power 2 more speakers.

I don't want to have to start drilling/cutting the dashboard to install speakers, so I'm wondering if it's possible to get "freestanding" speakers that I could easily put on the dash (and secure there with sticky pads or something similar) ?

I've looked on eBay but I can't really find any - maybe I'm using the wrong search terms - have they a special name ?

I have a great pair of sony's, they are battery powered (active), but sound very good considering the size.. wouldn't take much effort to wire in car speaker wires instead of Jacks..

could wire a power supply to Smile

Just beware that in an accident these could literally be the death of you. Sticky pads or velcro wont hold them down. There is apparently a big unrealised issue with things like portable tvs on headrests for the kids, if not secured properly they can and do cause serious head injury. Its not just the primary impact that is a problem, its the recoil - that is why the headrest is there.

Maybe some soundproofing might be an easier/safer option....

I'd look for speaking pods. Saw some quite nice ones at a car jumble just recently but I'm sure a car audio specialist would be able to source them for you.
I'd be a little wary of using PC speakers unless I was sure the impedence was right. But then I know very little about them!
