Hi sat at the show and doing a speedtest between my O2 data card and my new 3G modem, very different results.

O2 download under 500kpbs upload around 400kpbs
3G download nearly 1200kpbs upload around 60kpbs

I ran this test 3 times and the results stayed roughly the same, the 3G upload speed seems very slow, tried using a longer standard USB lead on it but for some reason it will only work on the supplied lead.

I also connected my roof aerial into the O2 data card, but this made no difference to the speed. The modem doesn't have an external aerial socket so unless a longer lead is available from 3G, I can't move it to get a better signal.

As uploads are not important to me I think I will cancel the O2 contract as the 3G is far better value for money.

Olley

Hi

Interesting, but I am not sure I fully understand it?

What is (in basic language) an upload and a download.

My connection thing shows in the last hour I have received 3 MB and sent 2 MB. I have been browsing the forum, the Nationwide and BBC's website.

Are uploads and sent the same? Are downloads and received the same?

R

in a nut shell YES, uploads are sent and downloads are received.majority of times uploads are slower than downloads.

Digital subscriber line, or DSL is how we connect to the Internet

"The distinguishing characteristic of ADSL over other forms of DSL is that the volume of data flow is greater in one direction than the other, i.e. it is asymmetric."

In normal use you download from the www more than you upload to it.
