Hi,thought i,d get in my tuppence worth as a newbie. With all the security and screening that goes on at airports why is,nt it the same on ferries or the tunnel.Never been on either ferry or tunnel as yet, hope to,but having spoke to other people about their experiences of using the latter several have said that they have often just been waved through without being cheked.Surely it must be possible for a so called terroist to cause just as much damage on a ferry or tunnel as it would on a plane. Question

It's also amazing how much is gotten away with as well. Even in America there is an uproar going on about the soft touch security that has evolved, even after 9/11 and to be honest, the opinion of an HMCE employee is bound to be "theres more security than there appears" and " amasing what they know and can do". I visit air industry forums and you should see the moaning that goes on about security.

We always used to be waved onto the ferry without any checks.
I always thought, white skin, couple in their 50s with a teenage son, UK passports. We don't look like were going to blow people up

Last two trips we had a weapons search in Dover, yes all the knives in the kitchen draw are for cooking with. And we have had searches for extra people in Calais.
So don't bring back any strangers from the Calais aire.

Don't know what immigration thought about all the cases of wine and beer up the middle of the Campervan and our son asleep in his clothes.

At Dover there are a set of rumble strips as you go through Customs. I guess that is to shake off anyone hanging on underneath and to make sure that you are not overloaded, if you get bounced around then your suspension still works.

Allan
