Good news for all of you travelling thro Blyth in North Nottinghamshire at the weekend.
The road works that have caused jams over the past 18 months are now finished. The old roundabout has gone. If you need Moto services leave A1 on slip roads
Regards
Dave P
No roundabout to queue at south bound at Clumber Park A 57 either.
Brillo! been up and down there like a yo yo for past 18 months, and I for one am glad its finished, not that it phaed me as in my tender years used to live in Blyth village so not adverse to cutting up a sidestreet!
Its hard to believe now, but when I was a youngster, used to start the 25mile time trial (cycles) from that roundabout and go along A1, I don't feel safe gong along there in the Landi now!!, not that my knees would manage it........the finish like used to be Nooney Bridge at bottom of hill in village.....
That new roundabout near Clumber Park is a Godsend, althugh youhave to have your wits about you the first time you do it.....its sooo much better

Talking about the A1, a few years ago I came across a photo of Hopperton Station and level crossing on the Harrogate to York railway line.
Hopperton is a hamlet near the A1, just north of Walshford and Wetherby. The station is now a private residence and can be seen on the left as you travel north on the A1, which at that point is now on an embankment about 20 foot high.
The picture was taken some time in the 50's and shows the level crossing gates across the single carriageway A1 as it was then. What a stark contrast to the six lane highway that roars above your head these days. The old road is still there and serves the house and the farm next door, but now there's just a field gate to allow the farmer to cross the railway.
Can you imagine what it would be like if that bit of road had stayed the same all these years
Andy
