Hi I hope someone can help. Despite the fact that I have set the "pop-up" settings to "high" to stop all pop-ups and I have deleted any settings that allowed top-ups, I am still getting regular pop-ups when on MHF and Internet Explorer. This has only started to happen since I downloaded the latest free version of Spybot-Search & Destroy.
I have scanned using Ad-Aware, Spybot and AVG. but its still happening.
Anyone any ideas.
Cheers Sid

Come on guys Wink Use firefox?
That is hardly a solution - that it just masking over the problem and sweeping it under the corder. If you took your MH back to dealer saying "the cupboard door rattles" and he say "ah - take it off and use a curtain instead"........... Wink

IE is perfectly fine if you avoid the dodgy sites. Ahem.

Anyway - Sid - can you download HiJack this from here

Run it - and then just post a log up here.

This doesn't do a virus scan, but instead lists all the ways things can hook into all applications. You can then manually decide which bits to remove (which it will do). Be careful with it though as you don't want to select stuff you don't know.

Hopefully the log will be clear. If not I'll keep quiet and tell you to use firefox too! Wink

Hi Sid,

I find this most unlikely to be related MHF! Exactly what pop-ups do you get when as you say 'on MHF '.

To the very best of my knowledge there are no pop-ups on MHF other than pm notifications [copied from change user info] - "Pop up window on new Private Message:
Will open a new popup window to inform you when new private messages arrive"

If you have checked the yes box, no amount of pop-up blockers will stop the that, simply check the box to 'no'

Hi Sid

activecampers is probably right. Something has likely "hijacked" your PC, dumping a little present for you. Each time you open IE, carry out a certain task, a popup appears. Run "hijack this" (available for free, use google) and post the results here.

One thing you can do (and it is easier for you) is to use system restore to return your PC to a state prior to the point when the popups started. The following assumes you are using XP.

Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOLS/SYSTEM RESTORE.

You will be asked if you want to select a restore point. Click yes and you are given a calender from which to select a restore date. You can go back to previous months, where available. Try to remember when you had no popups, say, e.g. 2 weeks ago, and select this date. Follow the prompts and your PC will reboot. When it restarts it will be restored to the previous date and, hopefully your problem will be gone. You will not loose any files but may have to re-install any programs that you installed after this date.

Regards

Tim

May I suggest that you remove the Spybot prog and see if that clears your POP ups.if so re-instal spybot from a different source.that is if you want it still.you have not said what the pop ups were.
