Sorry if this has been done to death - I did a couple of searches honest.

I have a Dell laptop and want to power it in the van. I presume that an inverter is the way to go but can anyone recommend a particular inverter.

I won't want to run much else from the inverter so I'm assuming 150W is the right size but what about modified sine wave etc.?

Laptops take very little power, and I run mine of the cheapest one I could find in Maplins.

Worked for ages, then the battery was crap. Not the vehicle, the 'puter. Laptops eh......

Hi Rumik,

No need to worry about modified sine wave etc. and as Bandaid says you can run it off the cheapest of inverters if that's all you are going to be using. The computer will be getting its power through the Dell converter and they can handle a wide variety of voltages so no worries.

Thanks for the advice - choosing an inverter is easier than I expected!

Drew, I don't think that particular model is 12v input but I take your point - Maplins do some 12v power supplies that will run a laptop. Decisions, decisions...
