Hi Terry I see you posted the same Ebay adaptor on Fun site as well.
Its not how good or careful you are at filling Calor bottles.
Its not safe to do it, you are doing it in a garage which is full of people, putting them at risk as well as yourself.
Thats why they put a shut of valve on refillable bottles. If the adaptors were legal we would all save some money and have them.
We all know that Calor charge a lot for Gas but you have to take into account they are delivering and collecting bottles, and TRAINING people to refill bottles, and if you buy a bottle you know they are not cheap, and then don't last forever.
With people like yourself filling with these adaptors. All that will happen in the end is NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO FILL ANY BOTTLE.
Why take the risk, you spend all that money on a van so it cant be the money that stops you doing the job properly. Thanks Bob.

My adapter fits stright onto the bottle without extra pipes or joins or 80 % full valves that can all go wrong,so why am I putting anyone at risk more than you or is it that you feel safer knowing you paid £450 as to my £30

Perhaps you are right because not many people agree with me, still I have said what I think and thats it. When someone has an accident and Calor get their way and we all end up going to distrubution depots to get gas, a lot of people will have lots to say then.

Just one thought about Gas bottles versus tanks. The last time I looked which I admit was some time ago, you were not allowed through Eurotunnel with tanks but you are with bottles. If this has not changed could sway the decision.

You are out of date, providing the tanks are not for the engine supply and only for domestic use and are able to be turned off, then they will let you travel. oh yes and they can only be 80% full and must show this.

Hi Bob if it was all about the moneyI think I can just about stretch to £450-500 and if not I could stay in for the weekend (away in the van that is)It comes down to simple logic-You put fuel pipe onto filler which then goes into a joint-flexi pipe-joint then tank,then reley on a flaot type device to cut off at 80% ? I put fuel pipe onto filler that goes straight into the bottle filll bottle to 7 ltrs (in theory I can put in 7.8 ltrs) turn off bottle valve.Exatly the same minus a few joints flexi pipe and float devise (do not try to tell me float devises do not go wrong I had too many old motor bikes to realise floats stick)Now who do you think has more to go wrong?Just because there are alternatives that everyone does not agree/understand with does not mean they do not work.I also have a diy Sog( £80)that cost me nothing more than a couple of cups of coffee,that also works.A diy spoiler that cost £3/4 instead of £30 because I did not know they sold them I made one instead.My tv is a normal (£150)240v / 12v jobby instead of the £350/ 400 one made purposesly for a caravan.My entire van is £10,000 instead of £30,000/40,000 (to get what I have got in)so yes it comes down to money in a way rather than bragging rights that I have got this! OH god I am bragging that I am A SKILLED handy person

FWIW I think that if you have gone to the trouble (and expense) of having refillable bottles, either fitted or as a DIY job, then you might as well have the external filler.
Had my new van done by MTH last month (2 x 13Kg) and they have fitted the newer external filler-with this the UK connector is already in place so it is just a matter of one turn to remove the cap, wang on the pump gun and fill er up.
It looks really neat too. Mine is on the rear of the van, in the back bumper, as my gas cupboard is at the rear offside corner.
I already had one 13kg steel tank from my previous van, but as MTH only had the aluminium cylinders in stock I now have one of each.
Both cylinders fill automatically when refuelling, but I have a manual changeover so that I know when one runs out-I simply close off the empty cylinder and open the other valve. I use the aluminium first as these do not have a gauge, which the steel cylinders do.
Oh for the chance to start really using it.

Irrespective of what type of system you purchase, my advice is to ask the installer to fill the system with lpg and test it for you. This way, any leaks will show up whilst you are with the installer, and not when you are alone at the refuelling point.
I speak from experience.

Hi everyone, many thanks to you all your much valued replies. After reading you posts and weighing it all up, I have decided to contact Richard at M.T.H. again, in regard to having a tank system fitted. If that is not a possible option for my particular MH, I shall probably go for the two 13 Kg aluminium bottles.
