Hi Richard,

Nancy itself is clearly a must-see, especially Place Stanislas. Has no aire, but there are some camp sites around. Nearest aires are in

and Lunéville, from the latter there are good train connections to Nancy.

A not very well-known gem is the little town of Liverdun, approx. 15 km NW of Nancy. No official aire there, but there is a large car park with picnic area on the banks of the river Moselle, most probably good for an overnight stop.

If Vauban-style fortifications can still impress you, then Toul (approx. 20 km W of Nancy) is where you should go.

If you follow the Moselle downstream from Nancy, the surroundings are rather industrial. This should however not keep you from visiting Metz, clearly one of THE highlights in this area. Metz has its own

from Nancy to the East. The industrial area only reaches as far as Dombasle-sur-Meurtre, and even here the old town and cathedral of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port should not be missed. After Dombasle it gets very rural. Neither landscape nor villages are really stunning, but quite lovely and yet unspoilt by mass tourism. No official aires along this route until

Hope that helps a bit.

Best Regards,
Gerhard
