I have been playing with satellite TV with varying sucess for the past year and have decided to try and upgrade from my little suitcase system, which has limited sucess when I have travelled in Europe. I noticed most vans have bigger dishes and roof mounted. I have a Limited budget but have seen the Globesat and the Maxview system.

Does anybody have experience of these systems, particularly travelling in Southern Spain, South of France and Italy. Rolling Eyes

Hi Happycow

Welcome to MHF.

You would be best to read through the posts in our satellite TV forum for the sort of answers you need, lots of info there.

My personal experience (and I've had both a Maxview and a Globesat) would be that the Maxview is easier to operate and less obtrusive but of course is more expensive.

As for receiving locations (I assume you want the Astra2D narrow beam for BBC etc.) you won't get any signal off either dish in Southern Spain. In South of France and Northern Italy you should be OK in good weather conditions. Southern Italy is probably out of range but haven't tried it there personally with either of these dishes.

As Ken says, you'll struggle with signal in southern Europe with both dishes.

The Globesat is a more aerodynamic design and cheaper but doesn't have as a big a dish as the maxview. If your thinking of getting a winder, I would advise to save up and put a couple of extra quid towards getting a crank up, they are worth it.

For southern europe reception you need a 80cm+ dish... and as yet the only systems with dishes that size are some of the automatic systems, which are probebly well out of your budget.

You could always get a large folding dish, such as a triax 88cm and tripod mount it, but then you have the worry of storage, awkward setup and potential theft.

Due to it's design, the 60cm Globesat is equivalent to a 80cm standard dish.

I have one and get on fine with it. The whole lot including mast I got for £150 of the internet last year.

My only gripe is I would have preferred the 45cm dish, but no-one seems to stock them.
