Hi
I brought a laptop back from the states when I want to use the pound sign it gives me

The comp is set up for uk usage via control panel, and keyboard change is set to uk, so it tells me

left alt+shift+symbol should have changed the $ symbol on keyboard but still comes up with $ Confused

Have you tried the right Alt Gr, on most key boards this give the € from the $. Worth a go

I think you will find that you may have a US keyboard layout on your laptop, if this is the case, setting the keyboard to the UK layout will mean pressing a key where you expect a certain symbol to pop up, will mean another does.

If you revert back to the US keyboard layout you may find that the pound sign or the advise above may help.

Try holding down the Left ALT key, then type 0163 on the Numeric keypad on the right and release. That should produce the pound sign

Check your international settings:-

Control Panel >> Regional and Language Options >> Regional Options tab

Set Standards and Formats to English (United Kingdom) and Location to United Kingdom

Try the hash key, shift3.

That what I use for £ symbol.
