Martin, it's not that I, or others, are "scared" to do the test. On my Peugeot Avantgarde I have done 9000 miles in the last year around the UK, France and Spain. In all that driving not once did I have to reverse up a hill. When I did reverse up an incline there was no juddering. (I take the point that the 100Hdi are not "judders" anyway).
I am about to take delivery of a new Autotrail on a FIAT chassis and I am concerned, naturally, but I had heard from several people who have these vans already, and read of others here and on other forums that have not had juddering in the 130Hdi vans too.
All I was trying to say was that if "we, (and I use the collective term to incude all owners), want the van manufacturers to listen then we have to make sure they can't use "driver error" as an excuse to get off the hook.

Of course your van will "judder" if you drive in 4th gear at less than 1000 revs! Any vehicle will judder if you drive too slowly in a higher gear, that's why they have gears!
This is possible a multimass flywheel problem, but if you want to apply a lot of power at that amount of RPM you really should be changing down a gear or two.
A lot of very modern Derv engines do have problems with very low RPM vibration / shudders.
it's not the clutch, it's not the gears, it's not the engine, I have identified the issue and that is what I am and have almost sorted.
?? Go on then Martin-put us all out of our misery!

I was talking to an x2/50 owner at a site today. Summary of dialogue as follows:
Q.How's the vehicle?
A.Brilliant
Q.Any problems with reverse up hill judder?
A.What are you talking about?
End of summary.
This is a guy who doesn't use the Internet (gave him an MHF card anyway ) has never had cause to reverse uphill and has never heard about "juddergate"
I would think his reaction represents the situation for by far the vast majority of x2/50 owners.

All the information has been described as to what I am doing.
My main concern is the mounting bracket onto the engine, not sure if it will
stand up to prolonged use so holding back on final 'how to cure' until I have tried a few other arrangements. Each move means making new brackets which take time, so don't hold your breath, bracket making and hols (and work) mean it could be a couple of months yet.

After chasing them up |I've just had the following reply from Motor Caravan Magazine:
"Apologies for not replying sooner. We are aware of this problem and have been in close contact with Fiat for some months. Fiat has assured us that tests are being carried out at their HQ in Turin and as soon as they have any results they’ll let us know so that we can pass them onto you.
In the meantime we’ve been talking to owners who have experienced the problem, manufacturers who build on the new Fiat and dealers who sell them. We’ll be reporting our findings in the July issue of Motor Caravan, along with advice for those of you who have an X/250.
Our team will also be reversing any Fiats we have on test up steep hills so we can share our experiences and see just how widespread this problem is.
We’re keen to resolve this issue and there will be regular updates in the magazine from the July issue."
Slightly more hopeful (and interest shown) than MMM!

July Practical Motorhome-p.87. "Diamond" Dave Newell has written a column. He reckons it's down to:
" a combination of the reverse gear being too tall and the lower engine mounting having too much movement in reverse"
So ....the jargon means nothing to me..."too tall"-does that mean it's too big for the engine?
Where's Martin-can he (or someone) translate pse? Is there an easy/cheap fix for Fiat (if he's right) I wonder if he's told Fiat of his opinion?
