I find the electric step has failed on my Swift Kon Tiki 645 together with some of the lights at the front end of the habitation. Where do I start to look for the cause? Some sparky person, please help!

Hi
What year is your Kontiki? Reason I ask is that the control panel on some models will show you if you have blown a fuse.
Failing that, check your fuse board. Again, knowing the model year will help.

| Hi Mike My electric step on my Benimar refused to work due partly to lack of use. It may be a fuse or it may be my problem which was cured by giving the electric motor a whack with a lump of wood or a tap with a hammer (not too hard) this may sound drastic but due to their location steps do tend to get more weather beaten! Also spray all arount with WD40 or similar. Believe me it does work as I had the same problem with my Remister elec. hatch, a firm tap on the motor casing had it working again. Since delivering this brutal treatment both units have worked fine mainly due to regular use as both now fully retired. Good Luck hope this may be of help. |

Hi Mike we will try to help if we can, but as Russell has asked we do need to know how old the vehicle is or what make is the electrical system?
If you would be so kind as to furnish us with this then hopefully we can try to diagnose the problem.
Best regards

Dear Sparky Persons
It's a 2004 model. I'm guessing it's a fuse somewhere as there are lights other than the step not working.

Our electric step on our Swift Gazelle did this.
Fortunately we noticed it at night when the motorhome was on the drive so we could see some odd back feeds going on through some of the exterior vehicle lights when we tried to operate the step.
Crawling underneath we discovered that the earth wire had come loose, this solved the problem. |

Hi Mikegee, sorry for the delay in finding this info for you. There doesn't seem to be a link between the front interior lights and the step supply from a single fuse point of view, but there is a connector behind the fridge which has all of the necassary cables going through it it may be worth checking that this connector is okay. To acess this connector remove the bottom fridge vent, and the connector should be to the right hand side.
it may be worth checking the fuses under the bonnet these are located next to the split charge relays connected to the vehicle battery.
If all of the above does not solve the problem then please give tech support team a call on Monday on 01482 678981 and they should be able to help with drawings and some other points to check.
Best regards

| Hi I had a 2003 swift bessacar 765, the front offside spotlights above the settee and the step were powered by the engine battery and not the habitation battery. if you open the bonnet there is a plastic cover slightly to the right of centre covering the wiper motor if you remove this there are three fuses behind the cover two of which have orange wires to them the thicker one supplies the step the thinner one the relay to switch the habitation systems off when driving and the other one is the auto step closer when the ignition is running. hope this helps. |

Many thanks to all who responded. The answer lay in the fact that the step is powered by the vehicle battery. And the vehicle battery had run down. Recharged it's all working!
