Stick it in 'Park' it its an auto or in first gear for the time being until you get it sorted.

If its making a horrible noise, dont use the handbrake.

Peter

Peter - this is what has puzzled us - there is NO PARK....Duncan asked at the dealers, as we have always had a park on an auto before.

The noise is really the sliding down with the brake up, at least that is what it sounds like, like it is tight but not tight enough and I just didn't like the sound.

Incidentally Peter, you don't have a spare Fiat UK manual do you, or would like a swap for a German one?

Hi Carol

Without being too techie I hope....

The Fiat auto will not have a park position as it is an automated manual box rather than a torque converter auto. Park on a true auto has some fins on the torque converter that engage when in park and lock the output drive

Ed thanks, I was confused as Peter at JCM said use the park, and I know he had a 160 auto in his showroom, and so I wondered if the UK versions had been different....

I could have sworn thought that our Smart Car had had a park, and that was another of these weird automatics....

So presumably you put it in Neutral....this not having a manual is driving me crazy.... come on Fiat send the flipping thing...

Carol

We drove to MTH on Sunday and was met on Monday by a friend who kindly took us out for the day, via the local Fiat Garage in Chepstow, where we arranged to take it in for them to look at on the Tuesday.

Duly arrived, and this garage, surprisingly, were also able to tell us what the recall for the vehicle code was...Fiat UK and Chelston could not - it is apparently cruise control..

Bit worrying isn't it when you realise you have recalls for things like brake hoses, and cruise control....anyway they are booked in for 21st at Chelston

The Fiat Dealer in Chepstow, tighened the cable (as some had surmised) and also did something else, which I now forget.... but it has held since then, so a big thank you to Motor Services Chepstow....for being even better than Fiat UK.....

Carol
