hello to all !!

maybe you remember the man asking stupid questions on the go910 !! Embarassed

bought mine in ebay couple of months now , and yes you do have to play with it to really find out how to use it ? Embarassed

. well here goes again , what is map sharing . i travelled a road i know very well and now all the back roads , i gave tom the route by post code , it was taking me on roads that were at least 15-20 year old and never did it tell me of a route as it is supposed to , i have all the soft ware the lot , the phone worked well blue tooth for my wife but could not find my phone just wass not in the list of mobiles ? traffic updates none poi virtually none , is this out of date . tomtom is say end of 2006 early 2007 model , but surely the maps at this time should be relevantly up to date , and i have heard from some people that tomtom is not really very good when it comes to map,s is this right ,
have i made a mistake !!

please help point me in the right direction .

, by what you are saying it sounds that you have very old software. I updated mine in March (can't rember the version no.) and all the pois and maps are right up to date, I even have all of the small roads on the maps of Southern Ireland that I will be using in three weeks time "yipee". Very Happy

it's as good as any other satnav.

Yep, the TomTom is a very good satnav, but it might not 'know' the best route as you 'know' it - don't forget, all it knows s what can be gleaned from satellite photography and a van with a load of CCTVs on it. It doesn't necessarily know the 'best' route.

Did you select (in planning options) fastest ot shortest? Shortest will sometimes take you on an interesting journey, but I always have mine set to fastest. Also check it's not set to plan a cycle route Wink

Our TomTom 910 was bought in the middle of 2006, and although it's been updated, we haven't paid for a map update yet - we might do before our summer holiday. But it still plans very good routes wherever we go, as long as we have the thing set right!

I Bought the TomTom 700 about 4 years ago and it's never let me down, although I keep wondering, should I update the UK map. So do I have to pay to update UK maps? (sorry to hijack your thread.)

I think I have just broken mine together with an MP3 player. Having given the my Garman to the missus which is playing up; namely telling her to turn a few yards after she has driven past it, (I know. I laughed too Very Happy

- but wish I hadn't as she got me when she got home again Sad

) I bought a Navman and now despite restores and everything, refuses to install a section of the UK map I removed by accident and is playing up when I try to upload speed cam stuff from Pocket Gps. I also found out it can only handle 12000 POI's so I cannot even load the full monty on.

I have decided on a Tom Tom XL Uk and Europe and the mpeg player I will decide when I go out and get Tom. I did order a Sandisk Mpeg player and two arrived as I must have clicked twice but despits a claim it is USB it was only at one end so I cannot plug the cable in that comes from my cab radio. So these have to go back.

Not having a good day so far but par for the course.

glad to hear i have not made a mistake !! the old maps mentioned here . i would not have thought their would be old mapping on it should you , 2006 is only 2 years ? . so i would have thought this 910 go would have all the roads up to date !!. is this where tomtom makes it,s money . buy me and then i will tell you only were to go if you get up to date maps. . did not know that you set shortest route by way of planning, thanks for this , this is some help . what is map sharing can any one say .traffic or tmc how do you switch this on .

The TT 910 does not accept map sharing.

It is available only on newer models (so far).
It allows users to create corrections to maps and share them around.

You really do need to click your way around all the menus of your TT and learn more about it.

It is much easier to do using it connected up to the computer - it brings the keyboard and mouse into operation.

Just remember that you cannot break it in any way by clicking on things.

It has loads of features:
advance planning
part of route avoidance
type of route selected
type of display
& etc & etc (not ect! etc is short for etcetera)

The TomTom system is excellent, we have 4 of them of various ages, all only work as well as they are set up. Check what type of route it is planning, shortest, fastest, avoid motorways etc.

Up to date maps available from TThome, cost of latest is £39.00 well worth it. We have used ours throughout Europe with excellent reliability and also in USA, we have bought separate cards for other than home.

Also check that itn is reading UK detailed maps from memory and not Europe outline maps - both are installed and could be being accessed.

Persevere with it, it is great, has totally removed arguments in vehicles on journeys, we also use ours for ambulance service in middle of night from postcode and house number (if available) takes us right to front door most times if we have been called by ambulance service for 999 call. That's how reliable it is.

Pairing it to both phone and handsfree for in car use for traffic updates is fiddly but does work IF you have phone service (we don't at home) this is less useful and we are not certain it is worth it, but it has warned us of delays ahead on long journeys.

Good luck, it's worth conquering it - you can't be beaten by a small bit of electronic gizmology
