I have a Dell PC running Vista and a HP all in one printer (5610) Over the past few days, I have been unable to print from the internet without first saving the document to my computer. This never happened before-I have always been able to print things like bank statements straight off. I can print anything actually in my computer without problems.
When I ask it to print from the web, I get the printer icon appear bottom right as usual, but with "0 documents". If I leave the documents window open whilst I try to print, the document appears in it briefly with "Spooling" next to it and then just disappears. I am getting no error messages etc.
Anyone have an idea whats going on??
Many thanks -it is VERY frustrating!!!!

I don't know Vista, but in Internet Explorer, can you check that IE knows about the printer? Are you using the printer icon, or have you tried File : Print : and checked that the printer you want is there, and highlighted, and the status is OK?
When you say it prints when you save it, what do you do to print the saved file? Do you open it in IE, or Word, or what? What sort of 'documents' are you trying to print? Are they just web pages, or downloaded documents from web pages.
This sounds a bit tricky

I had an issue with mine too, it seems that vista has a mind of its own and will sometimes just not recognise other software or applications. for age I couldn't print from publisher although I had previously.
The problem still exists some times, and I have been told to re load the drivers etc for the printer.

Thanks Gerald. I have to use the "Microsoft XPS document writer" which is in the print menu to write webpages into a file-I can then print fine. The printer is definitely in the menu and selected-all seems normal, just no print!! I think it is definitely an IE problem as I can print fine from Firefox (Which I have just installed as a temporary solution!)

I had a similar problem and searched for a while and could not find the answer. Then I checked connections. The connection from the printer transformer was slightly loose, pushed it in and problem was solved!! Do not know why it worked for some but not from web.

Aah! I have just done some extensive trawling of the Microsoft technical forums and I think I have my answer!
It seems that it is AVG 8.0 that is causing the problem and it seems at present there is no solution -thinking back, it has only been a problem since I downloaded AVG free. For some reason, AVG is not interacting properly with Internet Explorer and the problem is with AVG and not IE.
I must say I am disappointed as I have always been happy with AVG, but it seems I will have to change. Are there any other good free anti virus programmes out there that anyone can recommend?
