There are many lovely places with great scenery. Here is the link to one of them. Gets very busy in the summer but still great fun. We went up the Grossglockner with the motorhome and did all 25 hairpins. Great fun.
You can take the train from the village to Zell am See, which is only 2 stops away and from there you can take the train to where ever.

There is another site on the other side of the Zeller See.
We love Austria and I lived there for 2 years. Great country and lovely people.

Whilst cities may not be your "thing", Innsbruck is a lovely place for a short stop. Train run there from every nook and cranny and if you take the motorhome in, you can park in the coach park subject to space.
Just to the west of Innsbruck is a place called Axams that was a ski village or something. Lovely walks and so on in the summer, as well as ski resorts in the winter. Similarly, Seelfeld - again to the west of Innsbruck offers all year round opportunities.

If your motorhome is over 3500kg, you will need a Go Box for the tolls etc.
If you do go to the Tyrol, then a drive over the Brenner Pass might be your thing, calling at the town of Vipiteno in Italy for cheap(ish) shopping.

The Ziller valley....... which also contains a Zell (am-Ziller in this case I think) as well as Myerhoffen (forgive the spelling!). We found a site in Zell that was particularly well appointed and positioned. The name was, I think, Camping Hoffer.
There were plenty of opportunities for easy cycling as well as cable car rides to the high bits.

Hello,
We have just returned from Austria - a fantastic country full of friendly helpful people - far superior to France IMHO
We stayed at Camping Vierthaler in Pfarrwerfen (www.camping-vierthaler.at) a small site run by a lovely couple, Maria and Rudi, who both speak excellent English. The site is alongside a river in a rural walking area with cycle tracks and very near to the railway station for a quick trip into Salzburg for about 7euros. The thing that may cause a problem is the railway line the other side of the river and may disturb sleep.
We also stayed at Donau Park at Tulln - a large campsite alongside the river and walking distance from the railway station (no disturbance tho') for a trip into Vienna (5.10Euro)
Also a really small site, similar to a CL, was Camping Smidl at Mittersill just past Zell am See. Still everything we needed - electric hook up & adequate disposal facilities, loos and shower. Cost for us at just under 7m was just under 10E per night. Electric is charged by usage by means of individual meters. Our three nights, including electric, came to 29E. Fantastic rural area, short stroll into Centre village for Info Centre, bread etc. Brilliant walking, cycling paths and excellent fly fishing.
Don't discount the two cities, Salzburg and Vienna. We are not city people either but thoroughly enjoyed the visits. It wasn't anything like english cities, we felt totally relaxed and safe.
We can't wait to go back, hope you have a great time
Ed & Julie
By the way we didn't bother with Zell am See, it seemed rather touristy for our liking and there was no parking signs for motorhomes everywhere. We decided that the area wasn't worthy of us
