Hi

We are considering getting a motor home and were toying with the idea of hiring it out to help offset some of the costs. We mainly want to use the motorhome for wintersports holidays so we could potentially hire it in the summer months.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for self-drive hire insurance for a single motor home used for hire but also for SDP? I want to make sure the cover is as comprehensive as possible (but good value).

Also has anyone else had any experience of doing the kind of thing we're contemplating (i.e. as a kind of part-time business rather than as a full blown self-drive hirer)? If so, I'd welcome any advice - even if it's "don't do it"!

Best wishes

Nicky

Shocked All comments and experiences do not mention claims from third parties (damage and personal) and how these were dealt with by the insurers. This is the area which has to be fully documented. Ask any car/van hiring company for a hire and see the menus for insurance and the conditions. Exclamation

I have found a company with information on their website about

- Alan Boswell Group in Norwich.

Bearing in mind the comment above about service, does anyone have any experience of dealing with them or know if the cover is any good?

I'm with Alan Boswell, on business use.

I operate 4 motorhomes for hire, and changed to them this year. I had one of our motorhomes completly destroyed about a week ago, and we're awaiting the consolidation figure - fingers crossed.

We have had no problems with this company, and they assisted greatly after the accident - with a lot of phone calls to their varios depts - engineers, accident estimators, admin, etc, etc.

Their assistance in the immediate aftermath of the accident was excellent.

We pay aroung £1600 per year per motorhome - for hired customers, but it will all boil down to the value offered for a 2006 model Auto Trail Apache 700 model...

I will let you know in days.

We are too with Alan Boswell. Just over £1600 but has already proved a financial saving for us than paying for each hire. Just bear in mind that in the event of fire 25% value of motorhome is kept for excess, so only 75% returned for replacement. Other than that excess £1000, so make sure you take that deposit for any hirers. We have hired 3 times, so new at this, but all 3 times something returned faulty, one time was awning costing £500 to replace. Good Luck
Helen
