Has anyone else had a problem using the 3 mobile service in countries where it's supposed to be "3 like home", i.e. you use your free minutes to the phone the UK from them? We've been wrongly charged in Sweden and Denmark.

Hello

I have a THREE contract and have used it many times in Italy - Tre Italia network with success. However, on the day I received the mobile, (I was in Italy at the time), I charged it up etc and as soon as possible made a call. At the end of the call, I noticed that the mobile was not on the THREE network at all, but something else. As such, I was charged a few pounds.

Basically, even though there is a THREE network in Italy, Ireland and so on, your mobile might not automatically "lock" on to that network, instead choosing to roam with the signal of another provider - such as Vodafone Italia etc etc. You can go into your phone settings and select the network you require from a list.

As a further check, before I dial or send a text message etc, I ALWAYS glance at the mobile to check the THREE name is displayed and not that of another operator.

I also note that there is a disclaimer on the THREE website that effectively states, if you are charged for a call when you think it should have been included, THREE's records will be deemed as accurate.

I suspect your phone has roamed onto other networks.

THREE are pretty good customer focus wise, and so it might be worth a quiet word and "I wonder if we could split the cost etc". Your bill should show what network you may have roamed onto. (Not certain about the latter.)

Russell

Thanks for the suggestions, but no, it's not that simple. We've been caught out by the switching to other network problem before, and are very very careful now. We've had the problem in mid Sweden and parts of Denmark in the last 2 months, definitely checking we're on the 3 network before we call and then being charged. And we have spoken to 3 umpteen times over 6 weeks and continually been told they are investigating, even once or twice that they know there is a problem and other people have had it too. It's only certain areas - it's worked fine in south Sweden, but it is in places that we used the system okay last year.

Have found that talking to 3 is like bashing your head against a brick wall. A very courteous brick wall, but still a brick wall!
