Here's hoping someone can offer some positive guidance. I am looking to have installed an automatic (or similar) levelling system on my new Auto-Trail 840D Lo-Line Alko Tag Axle unit. This may be a fully electrical system of combined hydraulic/electrical. Frm my enquiries, air-compression does not appear to be a viable option. I would be most interested to here from anyone who has information on available systems, prices and installers. Many thanks.

Hi Monkton,

There are a number of options here and largely depends on how deep your pockets are.

Leveltronic - an electrical system made in Italy and supplied and fitted in UK by Towtal - price around £2500 depending on weight it has to lift and payload available on your MH

Southdownmotors - fit an hydraulic system that is supposed to be the bees knees - approx £5000 - they were offering a £500 discount so maybe it is still on.

Goldschmitt of Germany offer a variety of systems (as fitted by manufacturers such as N+B, Hymer, Frankia etc.) they offer hydraulic systems from 5000 Euros

Keep me posted on your progress as we keep swaying back and forward with shall we shan't we - It is a lot of money for something you can solve with a brick or two.

Hi

Levelling a tag axle is a bit more tricky sometimes than a single axled motorhome. I looked at the levelling systems but decided the money was better spent on other things.

I level the rear twin wheel with planks of wood that were free!

I was determined to have the utmost ease with my satellite TV. If you find getting level as much as a hassle as I would find tuning in the TV, then I would recommend getting the levelling devices to ensure setting up on site is easy.

R

I have leveltronic. Its great. In winter you can hoist up so wheels and tyres do not go out of shape.

When I had installed the dealers were useless, couldn't get spares, I wanted spare remote.

Now they are gone and there are a number of dealers all over country supplying and fitting its fine

Visit the Italian manufacturers site Ares engineering, they have pages in English and a video to watch

Hi Thieawin,

How efficient are they - how long to level? Could you change a wheel without jacking ? When you said spares - was this because of unreliability or poor fitting in the first place?

Pete

HI, I don't know if you have resolved this now but here goes anyway, I recently sold my Hymer B774 which has an Al-Ko chassis with tag axles, I had a Full Hydraulic system fitted and It was the best money I spent on the unit, I had the system fitted at Towtal and the system is e&p by memo hydraulics in Holland, I just pulled up where I wanted to park and after the first couple of times didn't even bother to look how level the ground was, I used to look for the best lie of land for my awning (So the beer didn't spill) press one button to switch the system on and another button to tell it to set up and well with in two minutes it was perfectly level, We went to a campsite in Rimini a couple of year ago and the last few pitches were nowhere near level but no problem, I parked switched on and pressed and the front wheels were at least 7 - 8 inch off the floor the back were on the floor and we were perfectly level, absolutely brilliant, and to answer the last post, as stated it takes a maximum (in extreme cases) of 2 minutes to get perfect level, it is extremely easy to change a wheel using them as you also have a manual setting so you just lift either side or rear or front whatever, it is also extra security as the wheels can be left off the floor and this also prevents the tires getting flat spots if stood in one place for a length of time.
