Just took delivery of my motordome excelsior, very impressed so far,had in erected in 10 mins on my own.
Only problem is I'm not going to be able to attatch tunnel to my v an until I'm well inside France(due to my van being stored at in-laws)
I've searched around past posts but can't find a definite answer....My van has a brand new fiamma shade installed(will this have a channel to thread a fig8 to then fix to tunnel? If so, how easy is it to detatch from channel to drive away?.Just remembering threading a huge caravan awning along a channel years ago,I can't picture how this is poss?
I know not trying this isn't best before heading off but nothing I can do with this trip.
Other than the fiamma shade I have no other rails on the van so need to buy any rails/attatchments pretty soon if needed, thanks,Rossco

We use a J rail to connect ours to our MH. It is a metal strip in the shape of a J and can be cut to the length you need. Then you have a figure of 8 type shape tube that feeds onto your awning and then clicks into the J-rail.
Not sure where you can get J rail from online. I will try and find out or hopefully someone on here will know.
I know other people use different things so hopefully some of them will come back with some answers.
Just found this on the Kyham website not sure how it works but might be worth finding out http://www.khyam.co.uk/news.asp?newsID=19 is a new thing they have designed for attaching it to MH

Yes it will - we are having fiamma fitted soon for that reason. We just use two big suckers at the moment but will be using those down the sides. We probably won't take the dome to France with us due to moving round alot but there again might get plonked on a nice site and not move and as you say 10 mins and its up.
We have dilemma one of our legs is broken due to high winds in Flamborough t'other week and now am wondering where to get replacement leg - seems to be just a bog standard leggy but will try local camping shops this weekend. Can't find anything on t'internet about replacements. Original would be good.
We are loving our Dome cos its very comfortable and we have the inner tent so I can escape from the snoring and other wind troubles! (not mine)
Super fast replies,I love this forum!!
Thanks travel bug, with the j rail, you "clip" the fig8 as opposed to threading?Afew posts I read said this rail didn't hold very well in wind, have you had any problems?
Thanks Greenie,do you know if the fiamma shade threads or clips?

they should be able to tell you where you can buy a replacement leg either online or locally.
Asabrush - funnily enough the last time we went away which was two weeks ago the awning did lift off the J-rail, but that was on the Wednesday when we had gale force winds. We've got a new MH and were wondering if it was because the J rail is slightly lower on this one.
Prior to that it's only ever happened if the winds are really strong, I think they were gusting up to 60-80mph last time we were away. It was that bad we didn't dare go out all day as we also had a Khyam tent with us that my son was using and were convinced something was going to blow away. Neither did, we had all the guy ropes fastened and both survived intact. Once it had come unhooked from the van we just rolled the back up and pegged it down and left it free standing. Thankfully its not often the wind is that bad or we are in such an exposed location.

check this link and perhaps email them to see where you can find this kit from. I'm sure by this evening when others get home from work they will be able to provide you with some ideas.

Thanks Travelbug have emailed them. Am not sure about where it fits on the awning as not got the awning fitted yet but I am assured it does. Think Sonesta has one or definitely SDA (Steamdrivenrandy)
