My heart goes out to you,I know how you are feeling as I have been there too.I type this with a tear in my eye because I know what your loyal companion meant to you.

It may be of little comfort to you at this moment of grief and sad reflection but I know that time is a great healer and you will one day think of your beautiful dog, smile, and remember the great times you shared together.

Please try and not to be too sad, difficult I know but console yourself with the fact that you have given Tash a great life and never let her down right until the end, when you did the kindest thing for your best friend.

You may feel differently but for us the best thing was to get another dog fairly soon,it helped us both through a bad time, you will never forget your faithful dog,but getting to know a new one certainly eases the pain.

Steve

I understand the soul-searching guilt thing. You rack your memory for any relevant signs that were there, such as deterioration in mobility, excessive panting, hiding in a corner, change in behaviour. The trouble is, the dog just wants to please you and that's the gut-wrenching and humbling thing.

God, that's so true Dave!
We are just not up to the same speed with our animal friends as we would be with our kids or other family members. We often take our pets for granted and not notice what is going on. Of course our dependence on language has a lot to do with it. The intuitive animal experts bypass language and get to the heart of the matter instead.
I wish I had been sharper with my old dog and dear friend Blue. I didn't realise how much I really loved him until he was gone.
