I have changed insurance companies recently from Saga to Equity Red Star(through Adrian Flux brokers). Both policies were fairly similar, but Equity Red Star was £60 cheaper.

Adrian Flux asked me for proof of no claims bonus so I sent them a copy of my Saga renewal notice which stated 60%.This was 2-3 weeks ago and I paid my first premium and assumed all was well.

I received a letter today from Adrian Flux stating that the proof of NCB was insufficient, apparently they needed something stating I had 5 years NCB-60% was not good enough.

They also said they had been in touch with Saga who had been uncooperative, and could I ring them myself to see if I had more success.

I rang Adrian Flux for an explanation and was told they had written to Saga asking for the info, but for reasons I am not aware Saga could not help any further.Adrian Flux also said I would be liable for the hike in premiums if I couldn't get the necessary documentation.

Fair enough I said, cancel the policy, give me a full refund and I will go to an insurance company that will accept 60% as proof of NCB.''Oh no sir as the policy is already in force a cancellation fee is payable'' Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

After calming down I rang Saga, explained the situation and they were most helpful, they are putting a letter in the post with 5 years NCB on it,the nice man also gave me a quote for house insurance as well, guaranteeing to at least match my current insurer.

So,why would Saga not give the information to Adrian Flux in the first place,it would have saved some aggravation,is it the competitive market or something to do with data protection,I don't know, any suggestions?

Steve

Just being difficult in the hope you would remain with them and not change to A.Flux I guess.

Glad you got it sorted in end, although I was under the impression that inusrance companies have to provide a letter confirming your NCB if requested.

It's the number of claim free years that is transferable not the percentage. Some companies don't help themselves by a) not declaring the number of claim free years and b) teaching their staff that there is a difference and that the document that they send out may not be acceptable to other companies.

Hi Steve,
I'm glad you got this sorted. I spent 17 years as an Insurance Underwriter, if Saga had been unco-operative what would have normally sufficed would have been sending in your previous years renewal notices showing that you had held the maximum no claims bonus for for several years.
Helen.

Hi

Last car renewal, I do not think I sent any NCB proof. I think it was electronically checked.

Safeguard didnt want proof of our NCB when we switched, although they did take the policy number and company.

What is the matter with Saga,

I rang them on Tuesday and they promised to send me a letter with proof of 5 years NCB.It arrived this morning stating I had 60% or 4 years no claims bonus Evil or Very Mad

Another call today and they apologised and will send another letter stating I have 5 years NCB.

Watch this space.
