Hello 3plus2,
Not too far away from me, Live near Fraserburgh in a small village between two golf courses.
All I would say about choosing is
1. Don't rush into it.
Have a look at local dealers and see what they have to get a feel for layouts sizes. If you have chance get to one of the big shows, unfortunately nearly all are 'doon sooth' in Englandshire, but can recommend the NEC show, look for cheap flights from Aberdeen to Brummigum as NEC is walking distance from the airport and plenty of hotels and B&B's close by.

2. Write down things and layout that YOU want (not what the saleman wants you to have). Once you have layout and any requirements (like does it have an oven) then you can start looking more toward what you want, fixed bed, overcab bed, things like that.

Don't forget where you are going to park the van. It is amazing how big they are when you come to park in your drive !!.

Research on internet helps, but go and have a look at any vans that take your fancy, pictures and real life can be very different.

And don't be scared to ask, I would imaging everyone on here has made a mistake either with a van or accessory, well I have for sure (accessories).

And if you are up this way just look for 'Maggies Hoose' we are just across the road and kettle is always on.

Martin.

Don't be shy of buying your MH abroad either. Cheap flights and some winter dealing could bag you a bargain. LHD isn't much of a problem for those who've gone that route.

Plenty of info about buying abroad on here.

Hi 3plus2 - nothing much to add other than welcome and enjoy the hunt!

Perhaps your best investment would be to subscribe to MHF. You can then ask questions to your hearts content. Then when you get your own MH you can continue to ask about specific things on your model. The only problem is that it does then to become addictive Wink

Happy hunting

Sue

hi all, thanks for all the friendly replies! Very Happy

was actually in Elgin shopping yesterday and saw that one didn't get chance to have a proper look but pretty sure it was a 6 berth we quite fancy the 4 berth without the overcab bed.

we are not far from Cumineston near Turriff always up in Fraserburgh shopping so not far away at all! our caravan it up for sale just now was a good idea at the time but Lindsay hates towing it with a passion so its back to a MH Wink

the one thing we dont have to worry about is it fitting in the drive luckily living in the country u get lots of space Very Happy so thats no problem.

would you recommend buying privately or is it really too much of a risk....usual compromise though buying private would get us a newer van but without the security!

Hi again,

We bought privately, but with caution. The £45 we spent (then) on an HPI check, was probably the best £45 we've ever spent. It queried the VIN No, which the seller had already explained about. When I checked with Fiat and DVLA, it turned out to be a genuine mistake, and with the correct digit, the HPI showed "all clear."
I did all the techie checks, including a damp check with a proper meter. I insisted upon a habitation check, as well as a full Fiat service, and new MOT, (only 2 months left to run), before agreeing to the sale.
If you are confident, or know someone who has the necessary knowledge, you can buy privately with ease, but do have it checked out properly, and don't be sucked in by adverts showing a mobile phone number only. The place of viewing should be the same address as on the V5 log book, usually with a landline phone.

Jock.
