I have a 2004 fiat ducatto and want to check the battery water level. Unfortunately the only way I can check the levels is removing the battery but I notice there is a large metal plate with lots of nuts and bolts over the positive terminal. Is it safe to remove this and will it mean re-inputting the radio code. thanks

If you remove the earth cable first its safer. If the spanner touches metal surround on live terminal you will get a short, removing the earth cable first will stop this.
Refit the earth cable last will stop a short when replacing the leads.
Unless the radio has backup batteries, you will need to have radio code.

Double check that the battery is in fact a battery that you top up, and not a sealed battery, I had a look at mine and it looks like it might be sealed.
