Hi John. When I had the Lorry I was going to a farm one day and meet the school bus with a woman driver, she would not go back and I could not go back as I was as wide as the road it had lots of bends, she only had to go back 200 yards. So I had a cup of coffee then she told me she could not reverse it, in the end I had to get on the bus full of cheering kids and reverse it for her. But the best thing is if you get a trailer thats as wide as your van and the longer the better. Bob.

Ha ha - well at least I can reverse if I have a clear run, so thankfully I'm not quite that bad yet! Just wish you had been around when I had my 'incident' I would gladly have let you jump in the drivers seat!

Hi Bob,
I knew you weren't having a go at women drivers in general only THAT one you bumped into, which is perfectly understandable. Poor woman she must surely be a nervous wreck on the road though and if I couldn't reverse at all I think I would call it a day myself. Mind you I dont like reverse parking into small parking spaces I must confess and I envy my husband cos he could easily and confidantly park into a postage stamp sized space! Not me I need at least 2 car speces and if you took away my reversing sensors I would be all at sea!

I've had the trailer for 8 or 9 years, and could manoeuvre it fairly well with a car. My drive was at every angle except level, so I didn't get much practice at home as I'd have just worn out tyres and clutches. I met a big 4x4 on a single track road once, and the driver got really angry as I wouldn't reverse for him. In the end he backed up a long way, looking furious. When I drove past him, he wound down the window with a very apologetic look on his face, and said "sorry, I didn't realise you were towing" .
I find it harder to reverse with the van. I can do it very slowly, but it's difficult to see it going off line, as it's much narrower than the van. By the time I see it in a side mirror it's gone too far off line. I can see out of one rear window, and with the reversing camera, but that doesn't seem to help. I suppose I ought to find somewhere to practice.
Yesterday I was doing quite well, and didn't let the lorry driver wind me up, but he left me very little room to pull forward when I needed to. If there hadn't been a car parked on my side of the road I would probably have been ok.
Putting a sign on the windscreen is a good idea, but as I look out of the top few inches of the screen I'm not sure where I'd put it. Haven't found a place for my MHF sticker yet!
I'm looking forward to meeting a tugger who can't reverse, or a motorhome with an A-frame, on a single track lane to a camp site

i find the best message that you're not going to reverse is to get out of the seat, fetch a mug, then gesture "cheers" with it to the other driver. works every time.
