Not really asking for advice, but has anyone else had problems with getting new TomTom maps lately?

After a lot of "page unavailable" messages last night, I see this morning that I have actually ordered and paid for a Western Europe map update. However, whenever I try to download the map (both last night and this morning), I'm getting "Currently our site is temporarily unavailable, please return at a later time" (although the front page and other pages are available). This is the page I'm trying to access:

I've tried to log a support request (but that page is unavailable too Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad ).

We're not desperate for the map, but it would be nice to have Sad

My problem with TomTom occurred after l had managed to download it to my computer. Once l'd connected TomTom to the computer and then downloaded the new map to the device, l find that every map and setting on the device had been zapped, and l was left with only one map - that of Costa Rica !!!!

Now bear in mind that to my certain knowledge l had never had a map of Costa Rica, this was a bit of a puzzle.

TomTom support suggested that l delete TomTom Home from my computer, re down load it, and then transfer the maps to the device again.

This time no problem. The whole process just took two or thee days.

Are you downloading it through Home?
1st Make a complete back up of your Tomtom using Windows explorer.
2nd Delete home (Add remove programs ).
3rd Plug in your tomtom and it will ask to to download home again.
Then have a go.
If it fails, have look at this site they will help

I couldn't install the new map because not eneough room on my 700, so I uninstalled the old map after doing a backup, then installed the new map but I lost all the POI's and Favourites. If I do a restore will it put the old map back on?
Cheers Sid

Hi Gerald

I also had a problem with the Tom Tom website this morning when I tried to report a breakage of my windscreen dock for my 910. I also received a message that there was a temporary fault with the website. I have sinced managed to communicate via the website (email) without problem.

When you say new map, do you mean a newer version?
POI's, are they your own or those which are already there?
Favorites are stored in the map folder called Mapsetting.cfg
Just copy from the old map and paste to the new map.
BUT::: Do a complete backup using windows explorer first.
If it goes pear shape you can always re-install.

Bob

Greetings,

Got our Tom Tom 720 before Christmas last year just before we moved and with moving I misplaced my CD, handbook and voucher to update to newest maps, so just used it as it was.

Found the handbook and voucher week before last, but not the CD, tried to update the maps but web site stated the voucher had expired, contacted Tom Tom, who stated that they would not offer me a map update even though I had mislaid my previous voucher (only valid for 30 days apparently) through moving.

Also the windscreen mount keeps falling off, which they have offered to replace that but have not heard from them as promised.

Our best test of the device was in France but it seemed to pick all the narrow roads, even some with height restrictions, it even had us going round in circles, but our friends Garmin 610 was spot on.
