I have been looking closely at the bike rack that is fitted to my motorhome. I am looking to change it because
a it only takes 2 bikes and I need to carry 4
b just discovered that it only screwed not bolted to the motorhome
Anyway I would like to see what you think about how I intend to fit a new one.
The one I intend to fit is the Fiamma Pro which will take 4 bikes with the extra rails.
The first picture below shows the current rack and I intend to put the top brackets of the new racks between the top of the window and the centre of the stop light.
The second picture shows the inside of the washroom where the bolts will come through.
The lower brakets will go behind the wash basin to which I can get acess through the thetford door.noted from other threads that using sleeves might be a good idea.
I have

Only my opinion of course, but if you have good access inside the van, and don't mind seeing the internal fittings (not that you will unless you open doors) I can't see a problem.
I would use sleeves myself for the reasons stated on the other post, and would also use a good UV stable adhesive sealant such as Sikaflex or Geocell.
As you plan to carry four bikes, I would do a "belt and braces" job and use either very large washers inside, or make up load spreading plates of at least 3" square from a bit of 3mm steel plate.
Good choice of rack. Fiamma stuff is good - have a look

. They are very helpful with advice, and as cheap as most.
As a motorhome agent with workshop facilities, we fit many bike racks. We would suggest that the Fiamma Pro Hymer may be the most suitable bike rack to fit to your vehicle.
I can not gaurantee this, but for the Dethleffs that we supply as new vehicles, these have a bar across the top of the vehicle like yours, and we use these bike racks along with an adaptor kit that Dethleffs supply us.
This bike rack will also allow you to install two additional arms and rails to increase your bike capacity from 2 bikes to 4 bikes.
Outside of this then you would require either a Pro or Pro C, both racks are designed to hold four bikes, just be careful where you would plan on fixing the mountings with respect of the bathroom area.
If you need any further assistance, please contact me.
Regards,
Chris

When faced with this problem myself, I emailed Laika for a drawing of the back wall so I would know where the wooden reinforcing stringers were located.
They sent one back as a jpg by return.

Dear Mr. ******,
unfortunately we cannot supply any technical plan to private customers as we can do it only to official Elnagh dealers.
We kindly ask you to contact one of them (the list is available at

Not the most helpful reply they could have given.
