Hi

I moved your post, no prob Wink ...and while doing that and in reading the request for information I think I will suggest that you give us a bit more detail on exactly what you are hoping to do.

Are you hoping to use the screen on the laptop as a monitor for watching the TV signal from the Comag?
Or are you hoping perhaps to use the laptop to record the TV programs. Some laptops can I think accept certain types of video input if they have the laptop equvalent of a PC video capture card... s-video or composite video inputs may then be a possibility.

So maybe a bit more info from you on what you want to achieve will help members give some answers.

best of luck with it anyway.

Mike

Going by your Comag spec/ manual:

then I'd guess something like this:

and a scart lead, but, as Mike observes, that presumes an awful lot you have left to MHF members' crystal ball gazing.

Hi,

I have used my HP laptop with our Comag portable receiver by fitting an analogue tv card in the PCMIA(?) slot connecting it via a scart to composite (red white yellow) phono lead and it works fine. I bought a Smart TV card from ebay for about £15. There aren't so many around these days as its all digital/usb dongles.

The tv card came with reasonable Intervideo software and can record to hard drive - if I had any space left Mad Make sure the card has a composite connector and lead as well as the usual tv aerial socket.

We used the portable satellite kit all over Europe getting UK tv as far as the Dutch German border near Aachen and enjoyed (mostly) being able to pick up radios 4 and 2 in Czech republic and Hungary from the Astra 2 sat. Also managed to watch some of the Wimbledon final on a channel called stream 2 at least until the laptop battery went flat and the 12v charger had packed up Crying or Very sad

Just to use it as a radio receiver I used an audio phono plug to mini jack lead with a portable battery powered speaker as sold for MP3 players and didn't connect it to the laptop.

Powered the Comag up on 12v then after a minute or so pressed info and 1 on the remote to get the beeper and adjusted the dish. Mostly I got it aligned within a minute or so, once straight away and a few times gave up especially if there were any trees in the way. I checked any dishes nearby and angled it a few degrees further east and used the compass thingy, sticking a strip of insulating tape in line with the arrow so next time it was easier and the dish needs to be almost vertical except in eastern Europe Laughing

Just remember once you have a strong signal on the beeper to press exit a couple of times before changing channels or volume - otherwise I ended up in the wrong menu and had to plug in the laptop to see what satellite I was aligned to - or I unplugged the power for a minute to reset it as it remembers the last channel.

HTH
Steve

Razz
This is the OH speaking!!!
Thanks for your responses -I think I have it cracked!

In case anyone else wants to do this I'll set out what I have done.

• On the Satellite receiver (Comag S1003/12/I have plugged in a SCART to phono adaptor (Maplin ref L84BA).
• Into this adaptor I have plugged a Composite Video A/V Lead (Maplin ref L10BA) with the other end connected to the Pinnacle Capture A/V adapter cable.
• This is then plugged into s Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid Pro stick (330e) which is itself connected to an USB 2 port on the computer.
• On the computer I use the TV Software choosing the composite input option – rather than analogue or digital tuner.
This works both with my HP Pavilion 1000TX and Apple Powerbook G4 (The Apple Powerbook needs the USB lead to be plugged into an USB2 port- this is achieved by using a PCMCIA Cardbus USB Port adapter)

Cool - I'm trying to do this to so I can watch the Olympics whilst in France - but was struggling with a windows and mac solution...

The PCTV stick looks good as it will work with eyeTV on my mac...

Lost of leads though!! But cheaper than the Elgato eyeTV 310 Very Happy
