Hi
I am new to Motor Homes and have just bought a Burstner Fiat Ducato 2.8.I am taking the plunge and setting out from Ireland to Pembroke in Wales, passing through Bristol, and on to Devon and Cornwall,From there heading to France from Dover and then to where ever the road takes me.
I am looking for a company anywhere between Bristol and Cornwall that will both sell and install satellite dishes, TVs and digital box.
Thanks in anticapation
Woodie

Best of luck on your adventures. In the back of most of the motor caravan magazines are plenty of adverts for satellite tv, I am sure I have seen a couple for the area you want. There have also been lots or posts on the website for some excellent websites i.e. satelliteforcaravans and transleisure (this one is 'oop north' though).
Hope you find what you want.
Have a great time,
Karen

I never thought I'd see myself typing this, but DON'T go the expensive automatic satellite route - buy yourself an 80cm dish and tripod from ebay (someone like digitalsolutions) and a satellite meter (about £13 from scottishkelpie) which should come to about £50, and then get yourself a cheap digibox and card (also from ebay, about £50 max) and set it up yourself, saving about £2000!
I was really frustrated at not being able to get a signal to start with but after a bit of trial and error - and the key thing, really tightening up the dish so it only moved a tiny bit at a time when you're adjusting - I was watching Soccer AM on Saturday morning!
Truly superb!

Wow Stormy, does that mean you have finally been converted
Me, I am still struggling, been trying to set it up at home to save embarrassment. Think it may be the location I am in that is causing the trouble, will have to bite the bullet and try and do it on site!!
Karen, good northern accent anyone would think you were born up here

when it's pouring with rain (how restrained & PC am i) you can't beat the all singing all dancing fully automatic system.
Taunton seems to fit the location you want - ring Vanbitz on 01823 353235 or 321992 - they are fitting mine at the moment.
just read some of stormywhether's previous posts on the trouble he had setting a manual system up. you can almost hear the screams of frustration in them. but you are all sweetness & light now dave aren't you

I don't think any amount of telly is worth 1k+ but each to their own.
I'm so happy I got the manual satellite thing sorted in the end but if the worst had come, I'd just have settled for the Magic Wand telly aerial and had done with it.
After all, there are plenty more things to do when you're out and about in the van. If you wanted to stay in all day and watch telly, etc etc etc...!

for first 10 years MHing we didn't have a telly in the van. however 3 weeks was the longest we were ever away.
when we got the chance to go for 6 months then a telly was essential. 10 consecutive days rain (we chose 2000 the wettest ever year to do it) confirmed that.

Hello All
The compromise of course is to get a manually operated dish fixed into the van, I've had one now for six years and it works a treat. I agree that the fully automatic ones are very expensive, but the portable ones can be a nuisance unpacking and setting up outside in the rain.
The manual mast raised from inside in 20 seconds point in the right direction (Hand held compass), lock onto the satellite job done. As someone else said though it is essential to get a sat finder to make the job simple.
Regards Eddie.

What are the relative costs of automatic V manual ?
Cheers Sid
