I have just returned from a 10 weeks visit to France in our new Devon Monaco based on the Renault Master with the "auto" gearbox.

The van performed flawlessly and we were delighted with the smooth ride, ample power and excellent auto gearbox. We only had a couple of small niggles with the conversion.

Almost at the end of the tour our Omnistor roll-out blind refused to roll out.

The fresh water gets dumped every time we go on a longish journey.

We are getting both problems looked at tomorrow.

The main reason I am writing this post is due to a design fault in the van concerning air circulation.

When ordering a van to be constructed later it is possible to have the large Heki roof light either over the living area or over the bed. Our van was already made when we bought it and it has the Heki over the living area.

In general I prefer this but it does lead to one problem. The fixed bed at the rear has no side windows but does have the two non-opening windows in the rear doors. There are no roof vents over the bed.

When the weather is hot and all the windows and roof vents are open air comes in through the windows land leaves through the roof vents ventilating the front half of the van but leaving the rear bedroom area very stuffy.

I would like to fit one of the smaller, maybe powered, non opening roof vents over the bed.

Can anyone offer me advice on the best type to fit?

I would advise a Mini Heki, which has several opening positions from vent to full open. A really nice clever design. I have changed my standard MPK rooflights to these throughout my van. Why do you want non-opening?

Fiamma Turbo Vent.

We have one fitted as standard in our Chausson.

Its variable speed, reversible and works well. It even works as a hob fan and prevents the smoke alarm going off when doing toast...sometimes if OH remembers to turn it on!!

Hi,

We have the Fiamma turbo vent in ours also fitted as standard, its bloomin gorgeous on a hot night or after a hard day in the sun. We have a raised bed over a garage and to have it turned on in the evening that area is lovely and cool to sleep in, we do have to have the vent open slightly at night if we leave it on low.

It is also good for the removal of smells from the bed Rolling Eyes

if you get my meaning!! thats when it is useful as an xpelair in a morning.

One further questions. What are the pitfalls I am likely to experience fitting one to my PVC which has a steel roof? My main concern is rust proofing the bare edges of the cut metal.

The suppliers of my van quote 6 hours labour at £216 for the fitting, that's £36 an hour. I asked just to see how much they would demand.

Perhaps I can fit it myself and only charge the other half £18 an hour - what do you think are my chances.

Seriously though, as an retired and out of date chartered engineer, I am capable of fitting it myself.

That was one of the reasons why I bought the Adria Twin instead of the Devon. Adria sensibly fitted a midi heki at both ends and double glazed opening windows on the back doors.
